Job Description
Position Goal:

To provide leadership and technical services in order to maximize a safe and healthy environment for all students and employees of Volusia County Schools.

Performance Responsibilities:
  • Work hours and locations will change as the need arises. Perform all duties according to scheduled hours and locations as assigned.
  • Assure the safety of children comes first.
  • Abide by all security procedures.
  • Represent Volusia County School Board (VCSB) and the Department with a positive and professional service oriented demeanor.
  • Work as part of a team by establishing and maintaining working relationships that foster efficiency, productivity, quality results, and promotes cooperation with administrators, fellow employees, students, faculty and the public.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair malfunctioning systems and components.
  • Interpret and make recommendations of engineering drawings and equipment manuals related to Facilities systems.
  • Survey schools for preventive maintenance scope of work as directed and perform preventative maintenance as scheduled.
  • Use equipment properly to eliminate or reduce exposure to fumes, noxious odors, mists, gases and poor ventilation that affect the respiratory system, eyes or skin.
  • Maintain stock and control inventory as assigned.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing as assigned.
  • Conduct a daily review and maintenance of assigned equipment.
  • Report any damage/dangerous or hazardous conditions related to work orders, equipment or vehicles to supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean orderly work environment, which includes all equipment.
  • Abide by safety rules/ standards when using tools and equipment, which includes wearing required safety equipment and compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) requirements.
  • Wear provided designated departmental uniform.
  • Attend and/ or conduct cross‑training sessions with others in the Division and apply skills/ knowledge obtained.
  • Work in high heat/ humidity and/ or cold environments.
  • Perform various duties from a ladder, high lift, bucket truck or scaffold.
  • Respond during times of disaster/ emergency, as the need arises, including evenings and weekends.
  • Perform effectively in emergency situations.
  • Operate school board vehicles, when assigned, in accordance with operational procedures and School Board Policy 505.
  • Provide personal tools as required, to perform assigned work.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Maintenance and Operations.

    Position Summary

    Reports to WEST (Heritage MS)

    8 per day

    Required Qualifications and Certifications
    • High School diploma or G.E.D.
    • Valid Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Universal Certification for refrigerant recovery (within 90 days)
    • Three (3) years verified experience in installation, troubleshooting, repairing, and servicing Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems
    • Up to two (2) years experience may be waived with verification of completion of an HVAC certification/degree program; chiller experience preferred
    • A combination of five (5) years verified experience in any of the following areas of facility maintenance: HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, and Carpentry
    • Must be available after working hours (on‑call) as a part of the emergency and disaster team
    • Must be available for scheduled shift work
    • Must be able to attend and complete on‑job training at various locations
    • Provide personal hand tools in accordance with established department list
    • Possess a valid Florida Driver’s License; if holder of any other valid US state‑issued Driver’s License, agree to acquire a Florida Driver’s License within thirty (30) days of employment, except in a case where accommodation is required, must acquire tanker vehicles endorsement within ninety‑day (90) probation period
