Job Description

POSITION GOAL

To provide technical services that create a safe environment for all students and employees of Volusia County Schools

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work hours and locations will change as the need arises. Perform all duties according to scheduled hours and locations as assigned.
  • Assure the safety of children comes first.
  • Abide by all security procedures.
  • Represent Volusia County School Board (VCSB) and the Department with a positive and professional service-oriented demeanor.
  • Work as part of a team by establishing and maintaining working relationships that foster efficiency, productivity, quality results and promote cooperation with administrators, fellow employees, students, faculty and the public.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, service and maintain chillers, close loop systems, heat pumps, cooling towers, ventilation systems, other electrical/ mechanical systems and their components.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, service, and maintain various types of refrigeration systems.
  • Maintain various types of refrigerators and freezers.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, service, maintain, and install building automation systems.
  • Interface with the operation of building automation systems.
  • Construct, install or repair various types of ductwork – sheet metal, fiberglass, etc.
  • Review sites and create material and labor estimates.
  • Develop skills and maintain proficiency with new tools, equipment, and technologies.
  • Maintain accurate truck inventory and all related lists/forms for each job as needed for maintenance operations.
  • Maintain and log accurate written daily reports.
  • Assist in the assessment, planning and implementation of preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Assist with training as assigned.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing as assigned.
  • Check and maintain equipment on a daily basis.
  • Report any damage, dangerous or hazardous situations related to work orders, equipment or vehicles to supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean orderly work environment, which includes the service truck and all equipment.
  • Abide by and monitor safety rules/standards when using tools and equipment, which includes wearing required safety equipment and compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) requirements.
  • Wear provided designated departmental uniform.
  • Attend and/or conduct cross‑training sessions with others in the Division and apply skills/knowledge obtained.
  • Respond during times of disaster/emergency, as the need arises, including evenings and weekends.
  • Perform effectively in emergency situations.
  • Operate school board vehicles, when assigned, in accordance with operational procedures and School Board Policy 505.
  • Provide personal tools as required, to perform assigned work.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair chiller computer program and circuitry.
  • Install, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair chiller loop filtration systems and components.
  • Install entire chiller loop system to include piping, straps, circuit setters, and all other chiller loop components.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Supervisors, Multi‑Trades.

    Required Qualifications /Certifications

    Required Qualifications

    • High School diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent
    • Valid Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Universal Certification for refrigerant recovery
    • Must have 7 years of technical service experience; or 3 years technical service experience combined with successful completion of the NATE Core Exam and the Nate Specialist Exam
    • Must have certification from an accredited HVAC school
    • Formal related vocational training preferred
    • Chiller experience minimum of 3 years
    • Must be able to pass written and demonstration tests, upon request
    • Must be available after working hours (on‑call) as a part of the emergency and disaster team
