- Supervise staff who determine eligibility for public assistance using the Florida eligibility system.
- Plan, direct, and evaluate staff work, and recommend personnel actions.
- Ensure all cases are processed accurately, timely, and in accordance with current rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Develop or use tracking systems to monitor case status and ensure staff complete required work and meet performance indicators.
- Plan workloads, workflows, deadlines, objectives, and time utilization with employees.
- Review and analyze case records under the ESS New Quality Management System; discuss findings; develop corrective action plans and follow‑up.
- Resolve issues from internal and external customers; evaluate, analyze, and complete reports; participate in supervisor conferences and meetings.
- Train employees in job methods; review, interpret, and coordinate implementation of policies, procedures, and directives; provide technical assistance.
- Communicate and document with employees; conduct individual conferences and staff meetings; develop and monitor improvement plans.
A minimum of one (1) year of experience as an Economic Self‑Sufficiency Specialist I and previous management experience is required.
Knowledge, skills and abilities: Social services program objectives and operation procedures; interviewing techniques; data compilation and analysis; applicable mainframe systems and software applications; arithmetic. Competence in operating a personal computer. Ability to supervise people; coordinate operations of a unit or office; interpret and apply complex information concerning policies and procedures related to social services eligibility; develop and deliver public presentations; investigate complaints;
compose complex documents and correspondence; adapt to significant or sudden change; deal with the public in a variety of situations; use ethical business practices; communicate effectively orally; establish and maintain working relationships; evaluate and monitor service delivery; develop and implement corrective action plans; develop and deliver training; apply problem‑solving techniques.
Applicants must successfully complete a State and National criminal history check, and, if applicable, be screened in accordance with Chapter 435, F.S., and Chapter 408, F.S. Background screening includes fingerprinting for State and Federal criminal records checks through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and may include local criminal history checks through local law.
