Job Description

POSITION GOAL To assist in providing a safe, efficient, and effective transport of students of Volusia County Schools in support of instructional programs and activities.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Represent Volusia County School Board and Student Transportation Services with a positive and professional service-oriented demeanor.
  • Assure the safety of all children comes first.
  • Required to have prompt, regular attendance. Work hours and locations will change as the need arises. Perform all duties according to scheduled hours and locations as assigned.
  • Work as part of a team by establishing and maintaining working relationships that foster efficiency and productivity and promote cooperation with administrators, fellow employees, students, faculty, and school community.
  • Assist sub driver with route logistics.
  • Attend and successfully complete job-related training sessions as needed.
  • Abide by, monitor and support safety rules/ standards and working practices when using tools and equipment, which includes wearing required safety equipment and compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) requirements.
  • Report any hazards that would present a threat to the safety of students and/or employees.
  • Load and unload, operate and secure specialized equipment for students with special needs as required.
  • Maintain order, discipline and a pleasant environment by actively monitoring student behavior.
  • Maintain a safe environment for all students by conducting daily inspections of school buses and specialized equipment as required.
  • Maintain the bus in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • Wear provided designated uniform.
  • Ensure compliance of Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP), Emergency Care Plan (ECP), and ESE.
  • Prepare, record, and submit required documents according to previously designed format.
  • Participate in required re-certification and safety classes as required.
  • Work with little or no supervision.
  • Submit request for special equipment needs to supervisor.
  • Participate as a member of District Emergency Response Team.
  • Required to assist operations with daily coverage, as an attendant, as directed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by Operation Manager.
Position Summary

  • Positions are located throughout the district - Deltona, Deland, New Smyrna Beach and Daytona Beach
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School diploma or G.E.D. or equivalent
  • Successful completion of Bus Attendant training course conducted by Volusia County Schools’ Transportation Department
  • Ability to work flexible hours (which may include holidays)
  • Must be able to operate school board vehicles in accordance with operational procedures and School Board Policy 505 and maintain these requirements
REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Ability to use electronic and safety equipment
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse groups
  • Ability to respect all students and/or parents
  • Ability to load and unload students at authorized/assigned bus stops
  • Ability to handle and use cleaning products when necessary
  • Ability to clean up body fluids, vomit, blood, urine, feces, etc. when necessary
  • Ability to load and unload and secure wheelchairs and other specialized equipment when necessary
  • Must maintain confidentiality regarding employees, students and student records
  • Ability to assist with behavior management
  • Ability to project a positive image
  • Ability to accept direction and responsibility
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written form
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team with co-workers
  • Willingness to attend related training programs on site or at school
  • Ability to keep the bus in orderly and clean fashion
  • Ability to use sound judgement
  • Ability to stay alert and always meet the needs of students

$16.40 per hour while in training

$16.40 - $17.86 per hour once contracted
