Airport Landscape Equipment Operator
Note:
This is a contracted position, located at the Daytona Beach International Airport. The selected candidate(s) will be employed through a third party vendor and ineligible for county offered benefits.
Major Functions:
The Airport Landscape Equipment Operator is responsible for transporting and operating a wide range of landscaping equipment to perform a variety of semiskilled and skilled landscaping and turf maintenance duties in the development, maintenance and repair of landscaped areas around the airport. Must be able to perform tasks of Airport Landscape Maintenance Worker. Position requires the ability to work nights, working hours: 6:00 am to 1:00 pm, 32 to 40 hours per week.
Illustrative Duties:
- Performs tasks of Airport Landscape Maintenance Worker.
- Operates mid-level equipment including mowers, dump trucks, trailers, or similar basic truck or single chassis automotive equipment, frequently with mechanical attachments.
- Performs routine service and maintenance of equipment.
- Uses chain saw for clearing and maintenance.
- Sprays insecticides and herbicides as directed.
- Sets flags, road signage, traffic cones, and barricades.
- Loads and unloads heavy material from trucks.
- Performs minor repairs under close supervision.
- Takes dump truck to landfill to unload debris, refuse and yard waste.
- Performs daily safety inspections of assigned equipment prior to and after use.
- Assists landscaping maintenance crew as needed.
- May operate motor vehicles to include towing of trailers.
- May operate a motor vehicle to include transporting employees and/or general public.
- Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Requirements:
Note:
We recruit for this position on an on-going basis in order to build a pool of potential candidates. When a position becomes available, a list of eligible candidates will be forwarded to the appointing Division. Must be at least 18 years of age or older, eligible to work in the United States, and possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Must pass a criminal history record check and security threat assessment.
Must pass a drug screening. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license during employment. Licenses and Certifications Required Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge.
Working hours:
6:00 am to 1:00 pm, 32 to 40 hours per week.

- Knowledge of operating and repair characteristics of all equipment utilized in job.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions in the operation of equipment utilized in job.
- Knowledge of traffic laws and other regulations governing the operation of equipment.
- Able to service various types of equipment.
- Able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions in English.
- Able to communicate in English and interact effectively with supervisor and other staff.
- Able to work under stressful conditions. Able to understand all aspects and take ownership of assigned tasks.

Able to see, talk and hear. Visual acuity and peripheral vision to operate motor vehicles and machines. Ability to pull, push, lift, carry 50-75 pounds, grasp, handle, stand, walk, climb, balance, reach overhead, bend, stoop, finger dexterity. Environmental Demands:
Outside work. Exposure to inclement weather (heat, humidity, cold, rain), fumes, odors, noise, vibrations, dust, insects, poor ventilation. Mental Demands:
Ability to read and comprehend operational and safety instructions, procedure, rules, policies, warnings, and memos. Ability to write simple sentences relaying information, data, and details in English. Ability to perform basic math and arithmetic. Ability to understand and speak clearly and concisely in English to relay information to other workers and laymen. Ability to identify and resolve problems. Ability to analyze data and develop conclusions.
