GAI is seeking an Environmental Specialist 2 professional with 6-8 years of experience to join our energetic team in Wisconsin. The role is eligible for a hybrid workplace selection in accordance with our Telework Policy. The primary work responsibility is to lead field studies, documentation, siting, and permitting efforts for environmental resources related to energy projects, including wetland reviews, rare species surveys, aquatic studies, stormwater compliance monitoring, and environmental permitting.
Additional duties include proposal preparation, cost estimating, quality control reviews, and project coordination.
- Coordinate environmental field surveys such as wetland and stream delineations, endangered species surveys, aquatic plant surveys, invasive species identification, water quality sampling, environmental inspections, and compliance monitoring.
- Lead transmission line siting investigations and prepare siting documentation for regulatory review.
- Perform office tasks including data verification/entry, preparation of field reports, technical documents, and environmental permit applications.
- Assist in proposal preparation and cost estimating.
- Coordinate with clients and regulatory agencies.
- Provide status and progress reports to customers, project teams, and management.
- Implement and comply with safety protocols and procedures.
- Generate well‑written, technically sound documents with minimal assistance from senior staff.
- Research and apply relevant federal, state, and local environmental regulations to project specifics.
- Mentor and motivate employees when acting in a supervisory capacity.
- Approximately 50% daily travel throughout Wisconsin (varies seasonally); overnight stays may be required.
- Weekly travel to varied job locations is common; driving outside daylight hours is expected.
- Progressive critical thinking skills applied to small or portioned projects.
- Strong technical writing ability.

- Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
- Proactive implementation of Quality Management System (QMS) for project deliverables.
- When assigned as a direct supervisor: effective decision making, conflict resolution, delegation of tasks, and mentorship.
- 6+ years of environmental field experience, including wetland delineation, ecological field surveys, and endangered species work.
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences or a related field of study.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Lead field studies and data collection with minimal assistance.
- Generate technically sound documents, analyze and interpret data, and interface with regulatory agencies.
- Acquire knowledge of applicable environmental regulations and apply them to project-specific scenarios.
- May specialize within a specific discipline; additional technical training is provided.
- Coordinate work with team members, assist in scheduling and budgeting.
- Assist project managers or task managers in proposal preparation, scope of work definition, and cost estimation.
- Maintain close communication with task managers and project managers.
- Effective oral and written communication skills; interact well with clients, staff, and managerial personnel.
- When supervising: conduct performance feedback, maintain employee communication, and coordinate with HR on performance and hiring matters.
- Regular use of hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear.
- Frequently required to sit; occasionally to stand, walk, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Lift or move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Must wear personal protective equipment such as hard hat, safety glasses, fall protection, hearing protection, and gloves.
- Work environment will have hot and cold temperatures; moderate noise levels.
