Meat Cutter – Floater

The Meat Cutter‑Floater will assist in all tasks within the Meat Department, filling in at multiple stores to maintain standards, provide excellent customer service, and ensure products meet quality expectations. The role includes meat cutting, training associates, maintaining inventory, ensuring safety practices, and supporting store objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Travel to multiple stores to ensure department standards by cutting meat, working the service counter, filling processed or frozen meat/seafood, and training associates.
  • Assist the Meat Manager in meeting business metric goals; support product ordering, merchandising, productivity, and shrink control to meet company targets.
  • Ensure all quality standards are met, including 100% quantity expectations by 10 am and 4 pm, and fill all cases as needed.
  • Support department goals by assisting other areas as available and requested.
  • Produce all non‑case ready meat including cutting, trimming, grinding, wrapping, marinating, and sausage making.
  • Increase sales by maintaining visually appealing products.
  • Reduce shrink by following production planning tools, cutting lists, recipes, accurate trim standards, and minimizing waste.
  • Maintain adequate supply levels by replenishing items as needed.
  • Collaborate daily with the Meat Manager and Assistant Meat Manager on proper par levels for fresh cuts, grinds, and backups.
  • Assist in placing meat orders and supplies.
  • Train Utility team on grinding, cutting, special orders, wrapping, labeling, and filling.
  • Contribute to department cleanliness by daily sanitation, organizing, and cleaning work areas.
  • Maintain food safety and grind logs.
  • Complete periodic cutting yield tests with managers.
  • Verify meat deliveries for accuracy.
  • Inspect displayed products for close or expired dates, removing when necessary, and maintain markdown policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain regular, timely attendance and provide notice to find a replacement for absences.
Guest Service
  • Provide customer service at the service counter.
  • Assist guests in locating items and answer questions about cuts and preparation.
  • Take special orders and complete them promptly.
  • Answer telephone calls with proper etiquette.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • WI Certified Food Manager License (reimbursed by Festival if obtained while employed).
  • Lead, coach, and motivate others.
  • Deliver thorough training for all new and current associates.
  • Handle guests and associates tactfully and effectively.
  • Communicate and collaborate with Store Director, Meat Director, Training and Execution Specialists, and other Department Managers to maintain high standards.
  • Use technology and computers.
  • Read, write, and perform simple math.
  • Have strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Possess thorough knowledge of retail food business, perishable department operations, merchandising, and timely decision making.
  • Process all varieties of meat safely with tools.
  • Understand types, cuts, and preparation methods of meats.
  • Have proper training and knowledge of equipment and procedures required.
  • Interpret and follow instructions, solving problems.
  • Understand local, state, and federal regulations and food handling requirements.
  • Over 18 years old.
  • At least 12 months of experience cutting meat with knives and power equipment (slicers, grinders, cubing machine, power saw preferred).
  • Keep department clean by organizing work areas and sales floor.
  • Travel to multiple locations.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Dependable and flexible.
  • Reinforce Festival culture, guest service, and performance expectations to all Meat associates.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Stand, bend, stoop, and kneel for extended periods.
  • Lift 50 to 80 pounds occasionally.
  • Perform repetitive arm and hand movements, maintain eye‑hand coordination and hand strength.
  • May be exposed to temperatures ranging from 40 to 50°F.
  • Travel to multiple locations.
WORK SCHEDULE
  • Full‑time schedule including mornings, afternoons, weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings or overnight shifts.
  • Ability to travel up to 50 miles from home store.
