The Assistant Manager is responsible for assisting and consulting the Store Manager regarding overall operations and administrative duties, including determining methods and approaches necessary to accomplish the store’s goals. The Assistant Manager is knowledgeable in each product area or department in our store, upholds policies, procedures and standards listed in the visual manual, and is passionate about providing outstanding customer service and promoting merchandise in stores.
The Assistant Manager assumes supervisory control in the Store Manager’s absence and is trained in Store Manager responsibilities.
- Assist the Store Manager in controlling the assets of Hibbett I City Gear and in overall store operations.
- Consult with the Store Manager to establish action plans that accomplish departmental and overall store responsibilities such as selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, and scheduling.
- Assume full responsibility for the entire store in the absence of the Store Manager.
- Assist in overall personnel recruiting, training, and evaluation.
- Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers in all departments when necessary.
- Maintain awareness of inventory, sales statistics and expenses to ensure profitability in all departments.
- Direct staff to ensure each department’s responsibilities and standards are completed.
- Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
- Ensure quality customer service is maintained.
- Perform general administrative duties as needed and be trained in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
- Provide extraordinary customer service, including helping customers at entrances and during peak periods.
- Promote and sell services and merchandise provided by Hibbett I City Gear.
- Practice and uphold all Hibbett I City Gear policies, procedures and standards, as listed in the operations policy manual, personnel policy manual, visual manual, customer service manual, and company memos.
- Protect the company’s assets and financial information by ensuring accuracy and effectiveness of internal control procedures and informing management of potential fraud risk.
- Supervise employees in the absence of the Store Manager.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
- Interview, train, plan, assign, and direct work of employees.
- Resolve problems as they arise.
- Experience working in a retail environment, preferably in footwear and athletic apparel.
- 1-3 years of customer service experience.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
- Self‑starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with precision.
- Team‑player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.
