Senior Specialist of Engineering – Animal Health Division

Our Animal Health Division is investing $895 million in expanding our manufacturing and research and development facilities in De Soto, Kansas. You will join a world‑class team at our Center of Excellence in the Animal Health Corridor, contributing directly to the production of veterinary products that improve animal health and welfare globally.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as subject matter expert for critical manufacturing systems including aseptic filling lines, freeze dryers, HVAC and utilities.
  • Support the design and construction of the new pharmaceutical filling and lyophilization lines at the De Soto site.
  • Lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) for equipment.
  • Commission and qualify the new facility, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, equipment suppliers and contractors to deliver a timely, compliant startup.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize equipment and systems during startup and ongoing operation.
  • Train department staff on equipment and systems.
  • Author Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and preventive maintenance plans.
  • Partner with Maintenance and Operations to improve reliability, maintenance practices and operational efficiency.
  • Support regulatory audits and inspections, addressing CQV and engineering‑related questions.
  • Model and promote a strong safety culture, consistently applying proper procedures, policies and personal protective equipment.
Minimum Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least five (5) years of manufacturing and/or engineering experience in regulated environments.
  • Progressive experience with mechanical systems, equipment and refrigeration.
  • Experience developing process procedures for process equipment.
  • Strong technical aptitude and proven problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self‑starter who works effectively with minimal guidance and can proactively identify solutions.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks and prioritize effectively.
Preferred Experience & Skills
  • Relevant design, facilities and/or manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Experience supporting startup of large‑scale projects or facilities.
  • Understanding of cGMP and experience in USDA or FDA regulated environments.
  • Knowledge of lyophilization, filling lines and aseptic manufacturing practices.
  • Experience managing multi‑discipline projects.
  • Independent leadership, communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Schedule & Travel
  • Day shift, Monday through Friday as base schedule.
  • Off‑shift coverage may be required during startup or troubleshooting.
  • Willingness to travel to equipment suppliers for FAT during construction phase.
