Rough Carpenter

This long-term rough carpenter position focuses on building decks at a data center construction site. You will work as part of a small crew, performing early-phase commercial construction tasks using hand and power tools, interpreting blueprints, and maintaining a strong focus on safety. The role offers consistent full-time hours and the potential to continue on the project for multiple years.

Responsibilities
  • Build and install decks and related structures on a data center construction site in accordance with project plans and specifications.
  • Read, interpret, and follow blueprints, drawings, and measurements to ensure accurate layout and construction.
  • Use a variety of hand tools, power tools, and saws with blades to cut, shape, and assemble lumber and other materials.
  • Perform early-phase commercial construction tasks such as framing, rough carpentry, and preparation for finish carpentry and drywall work as needed.
  • Measure, mark, and align materials accurately to maintain structural integrity and quality standards.
  • Work as part of a two-person carpentry crew, coordinating tasks and communicating effectively with teammates and site leadership.
  • Follow all site safety protocols and procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe operation of tools and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, promptly addressing potential hazards.
  • Inspect completed work for accuracy, quality, and compliance with project requirements and building standards.
  • Adapt to changing site conditions and project needs, assisting with related carpentry and construction tasks as requested.
Essential Skills
  • Approximately 2–3 years of experience as a rough carpenter or in a similar carpentry role.
  • Proficiency with hand tools commonly used in carpentry, including hammers, tape measures, squares, and levels.
  • Proficiency with power tools, including drills, saws with blades, and other carpentry equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and measurements accurately.
  • Experience working in commercial construction environments, particularly on early-phase construction tasks.
  • Strong understanding of construction site safety practices and safe tool operation.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods and perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, carrying, and standing for long hours.
  • Reliability to work a consistent schedule of 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (5 x 10-hour shifts).
  • Ability to provide and use personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, work boots, gloves, safety vest, and other required gear.

Skills & Qualifications
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred.
  • Experience with finish carpentry is a plus.
  • Experience with drywall installation or related tasks is an advantage.
  • Experience in framing work within commercial construction environments is beneficial.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with a small crew.
  • Flexibility to work additional hours or overtime as project needs evolve.

Environment

This role is based at an outdoor data center construction site in Kansas. You will work primarily outside in varying weather conditions and should be comfortable performing physically demanding tasks throughout the day. The standard schedule is 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, totaling 50 hours per week with the possibility of additional overtime as project demands increase.
