Birch Agency is seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Resource Teacher to join an elementary school team in Eastpointe, Michigan
. This is an immediate-start opportunity for the remainder of the current school year.
We currently have multiple elementary resource room openings serving students in either Kindergarten through 2nd Grade (K-2) or 3rd through 5th Grade (3-5). Each classroom serves approximately 10-14 students and includes the support of a dedicated paraprofessional
.
Students spend the majority of their instructional day within the resource classroom and are mainstreamed into general education settings for specials and select academic subjects. The ideal candidate is committed to supporting students with diverse learning needs while fostering academic growth, independence, and success.

- Caseload:
Approximately 10-14 students - Dedicated paraprofessional support

- Provide direct special education instruction to elementary students in a resource room setting.
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure accommodations and modifications are implemented appropriately.
- Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals.
- Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Maintain accurate compliance documentation and student records.
- Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, administrators, and support staff.
- Utilize evidence-based instructional strategies and interventions.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
- Support students in developing academic, organizational, social, and self-advocacy skills.
- Partner closely with the classroom paraprofessional to maximize student success.
- Assist students in successfully transitioning between resource and general education settings throughout the school day.
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate with a Special Education endorsement.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Special Education or a related field.
- Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred.
- Knowledge of IDEA, IEP development, and special education compliance requirements.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Ability to differentiate instruction to meet individual student needs.
- Previous experience in an elementary resource classroom.
- Experience with progress monitoring and data-driven instruction.
- Familiarity with co-teaching and inclusive practices.
- Experience supporting students with a variety of learning, behavioral, and emotional needs.
