Position Overview
St. John Neumann Parish is seeking a warm, welcoming, and highly dependable individual to serve as a Part‑Time Front Office Weekend Support Person. This role requires someone who is calm under pressure, comfortable working in a parish ministry environment, and who demonstrates strong Christian values and behaviors. The ideal candidate will be self‑directed, able to maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times, and possess professional phone etiquette and basic computer skills.
This position requires a positive attitude toward the job, the parish, and our parishioners of all ages and abilities.
Location: Canton, MI 48187
Mandatory Availability: Saturday 3:00 PM – 6:30 PM, Sunday 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM, 5:00 PM – 7:30 PM

- Must complete or be in process of taking the Protecting God’s Children workshop
- Must complete a background check
- Meet and greet all visitors to St. John Neumann Parish in a friendly and professional manner; assist in directing them to Mass, meetings, or rooms
- Assist new parishioners with registrations by completing new registration forms, offerings, and scheduling; write in the Mass Intention Book and prepare Mass cards as needed
- Manage all incoming calls; transfer calls to appropriate persons or departments when possible, or take complete messages
- Make photocopies and send faxes upon request
- Sort and distribute weekend mail
- Read the parish bulletin to stay informed of events occurring during the weekend
- Check and maintain the Information Table in the Gathering Space
- Support weekend clergy and staff with office tasks or light duties as requested (e.g., stuffing envelopes, folding programs, preparing binders)
- For Baptisms: complete Baptism forms, provide preparation information if necessary, review Baptism schedule, and confirm with sacristan before Mass for setup
- Add or remove names from the sick/deceased list in the sacristy, ensuring proper updates and records throughout the weekend
- Attend staff meetings, typically scheduled on Tuesday afternoons every 2–3 weeks
- Complete Incident Reports when incidents occur; recognize emergencies versus issues that can wait until the next day
- Set out and clean up name tags and markers during Hospitality Weekend (usually the first weekend of the month)
- Turn off lights in the Church, Chapel, Grotto, Gathering Space, kitchen, restrooms, and hallways at closing
- Secure the building and lock all perimeter doors when closing for the evening
