We are hiring an Instrumentation Technician to work in Dearborn, MI.

This is a position for those with some knowledge and experience in automotive, either on the job or as a hobby. The Instrumentation Technician will be working in a unique lab that provides air flow, vibe, and fuel system testing in Dearborn. This facility applies numerous testing methods and data acquisition software to support and conduct a variety of Engine Component, Powertrain, Fuel System, and Durability Tests. Duties and responsibilities include:
Installation, troubleshooting, and repair of Special test components (accelerometers, transducers, strain gages, Vishay AMPs, thermocouple soldering). Building electrical cables, repairing electrical connectors, and modifying electrical breakout boxes. Calibrating and maintaining testing instrumentation. Interface with Technologists, Product Engineers, and Supervisors on updates/new test procedures, equipment and methods. Verify the calibration and maintenance of test equipment and test systems. Hook up instrumentation, diagnose / troubleshoot problems, conduct tests, change out components if necessary, and remove instrumentation as needed.

MINIMUM

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND /OR SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma required.

Basic background in engine electronics troubleshooting, Kulite pressure transducer experience, Thermocouple soldering experience, knowledge of Vishay AMPs, accelerometer experience, strain gauge, and ability to read schematics/wiring diagrams a must.

Understanding how DMM’s, O-Scopes, and other electronic testing devices are used.

Good interpersonal, computer, oral and written skill.

DESIRED:

Associate Degree or equivalent in automotive technology or electronic related field.

Experience in engines/powertrain dynamometer testing or other similar testing techniques preferred.

Understanding of instrumentation used in an automotive test environment, such as pressure transducers, thermocouples, accelerometers, etc. are highly preferred.

UNUSUAL OR SPECIAL

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION

PPE required includes safety glasses, safety shoes, gloves, lab coats, and occasional hearing protection, 100%.

Sitting (50%), Standing (50%), Bending (25%), stooping (25%).

Job Requires manual labor.

High noise in vibe lab, air flow, and dyno cells, 100%.

Description of Work Environment

Inside 100%.

Carcinogens (fuel), moving/rotating parts, electrical hazards, 50%.

Computer, copier, 75%.

Overhead lifts (cranes), hand tools (air and manual), 50%.

CRITICALITY OF ATTENDANCE

Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

May need to transfer to another shift based on job requirements.

Day Shift.

Regular attendance and punctuality critical.

OTHER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Must undergo an audiometric evaluation as part of the pre-employment screening process, and annually thereafter. Must also pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
