Position: Full Time Faculty - Pre-Education (10 month, tenure, permanent position)

Overview

Henry Ford College presents an opportunity for a Full Time Faculty - Pre-Education position. The full-time faculty member will teach courses in or related to Pre-Education for majors and non-majors in a variety of delivery modes (in-person, online, or hybrid). The role supports student success through curriculum and course development, course and program coordination, advising, assessment of student learning, mentoring colleagues, and continuous program improvement.

The position requires collaboration with the College community to meet the needs of students with diverse backgrounds and abilities, participation in shared governance, and collaboration on college-wide initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Teach courses in Pre-Education for current majors and non-majors in in-person, online, or hybrid formats.
  • Engage in curriculum and course development; coordinate courses and programs; advise and assist students; assess student learning; train and mentor colleagues; and contribute to continuous program improvement.
  • Participate in shared governance and serve on program, department, school, divisional, and college-wide committees.
  • Collaborate to advance college-wide initiatives and support a diverse student population.
  • Provide innovative and effective learning experiences and contribute to program/department/school policy development and compliance.
  • Participate in the selection, evaluation, and development of practicum locations and collaborate with student organizations related to education careers.
  • Support recruitment, progression, graduation, and transfer activities within Pre-Education programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and deemed qualified or trained to perform.
Required qualifications
  • Earned master’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution in Education, Education Administration, Educational Leadership, or equivalent.
  • Experience in higher education: at least two years of full-time teaching (or equivalent part-time) at a level comparable to a community college.
  • Clear and effective oral and written communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, organize, and deliver effective learning experiences in classroom and/or laboratory settings.
  • Demonstrated competence in using technology to provide instruction, including online learning platforms; willingness to be trained in new technology.
  • Understanding of the community college mission/philosophy and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, staff, and students in a diverse setting.
  • Commitment to keeping professional skills and knowledge up-to-date.
  • Certified to teach in one or more approved Michigan Department of Education contents area.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in K-12 education.
Ideal qualifications (may be beneficial)
  • Prior experience in Teacher Education at a higher education institution.
  • Experience in educational theory, instructional design, student evaluation, and outcome assessment.
  • Ph.D. or Ed.D in Educational Leadership or Educational Administration.
  • Ability to teach in areas such as Special Education, Literacy, Educational Psychology, or Educational Foundations.
  • Ten or more years of experience in K-12 schools, including teaching and administration.
  • Current experience teaching online in a higher education institution (within the last 5 years).

Application process
  • Teach 15 contact hours per week and provide a minimum of 5 hours per week of student consultation.
  • Prepare innovative learning experiences (lectures, labs, demonstrations, exercises) to foster student engagement and success.
  • Assist in coordination of courses within the discipline, including syllabus templates, instructor guides, textbook selections, course policies, and resource materials; mentor instructors; collaborate with academic leadership and support staff.
  • Incorporate instructional technology to enhance learning; participate in beyond-classroom learning experiences and manage related equipment.
