Position Description Summary

Henry Ford College presents a temporary instructor position in the Workforce and Professional Development Summer Career Exploration Academy Program. This role supports introducing youth in grades 6–12 to various career paths through workshops. The instructor develops and delivers lessons, manages student supervision, and ensures a safe, enriching learning environment.

Qualifications
  • Prior teaching experience, working in an educational setting (formal or informal) and facilitating programming with youth grades 6th and higher.
  • Youth engagement related to child development, elementary or secondary edutainment, recreation, or similar fields.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Actively instruct and supervise youth for the duration of the workshop day, using best practices in group management.
  • Implement educational activities with interactive and hands‑on elements to keep students engaged.
  • Maintain a safe and positive environment that responds to youth medical, behavioral, and emotional needs.
  • Be aware of students’ diverse needs and backgrounds, adapting teaching approach accordingly.
  • Uphold scholarly and ethical standards of the discipline.
  • Demonstrate respect for students as individuals, fostering a respectful classroom or online environment.
  • Treat all students with respect and fairness without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, disability, sexual orientation, or other protected status.
  • Demonstrate mastery of course material, preparing lessons and materials thoroughly.
  • Make you available for student consultations and provide guidance to promote learning and success.
  • Meet all scheduled classes and final presentations as scheduled.
  • Be informed of the College's support services for students and recommend their use.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and behave professionally to maintain a scholarly atmosphere.
