Overview

Henry Ford College presents an opportunity for a temporary instructor in the Workforce and Professional Development Summer Career Exploration Academy Program.

This non‑credit instructor will introduce youth in grades 6th to 12th to various career paths through our career exploration academy. The instructor will support an enriching, educational and safe experience for the youth during their workshops, including developing lessons and activities, carrying them out, and supervising the students.

The instructor reports to the Director of Workforce and Professional Development in the School of Business, Entrepreneurship, and Professional Development. Schedule changes will be determined and finalized with the supervisor at the time of hire and may change based on departmental needs and the College’s operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Actively instruct and supervise youth during workshop days; apply best practices in group management to ensure a safe, welcoming, and inspiring learning environment.
  • Develop and implement educational activities, incorporating interactive and hands‑on components that engage students with varied learning styles.
  • Maintain a safe and positive environment, responding to medical, behavioral, and emotional needs; report concerns to supervision.
  • Adapt teaching approaches to meet diverse student backgrounds and needs.
  • Communicate course expectations to students; prepare lesson materials (handouts, assessments) before class; present material conscientiously.
  • Provide student consultations and guidance to promote learning and success.
  • Attend scheduled classes, final presentations, staff meetings, and any required professional development sessions.
  • Take responsibility for supporting use of College resources for student success.
  • Uphold ethical and scholarly standards; treat all students with respect and fairness, regardless of protected class status.
  • Demonstrate mastery of subject matter and a commitment to continual learning.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Prior teaching experience, formal or informal, facilitating programming with youth grades 6th and higher.
  • Experience engaging youth in child developmental, elementary or secondary education, edutainment, early childhood recreation, or similar fields.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written; ability to build collaborative relationships.
  • Analytical, forward‑thinking, results‑oriented mindset; strong teamwork and innovative capabilities.
