Position Description Summary

Henry Ford College presents an opportunity for a temporary instructor in the Workforce and Professional Development Summer Career Exploration Academy Program.

This non-credit instructor will support an amazing opportunity to introduce youth in grades 6th to 12th to various career paths through the career exploration academy. The hired noncredit instructor is responsible for providing an enriching, educational and safe experience for youth during their workshops. This includes developing lessons/activities, carrying out lessons/activities and supervising youth.

The instructor will report to the Director of Workforce and Professional Development in the School of Business, Entrepreneurship, and Professional Development.

Schedule changes will be determined and finalized with the supervisor at the time of hire and may change based on departmental needs and the College’s operations.

Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in:

  • Implement educational activities. You will incorporate interactive and hands‑on activities into your lessons to keep students engaged and interested. Utilize a variety of teaching techniques to accommodate different learning styles.
  • Maintain a safe and positive environment, that responds to youth medical, behavior and emotional needs. Reporting or referring those concerns to supervision.
  • Be aware of the diverse needs and backgrounds of your students and adapt your teaching approach accordingly.
  • Uphold the best scholarly and ethical standards of his or her discipline.
  • Demonstrate respect for students as individuals and foster a respectful atmosphere in the classroom or an online learning environment.
  • Treat all students with respect and fairness without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, weight, height, marital status, familial status, protected disability, sexual orientation, political affiliation or belief or any other status protected by law.
  • Demonstrate mastery of course material, come to class prepared to teach the day's lesson (including preparing all handouts, exams, or other materials before the start of class), and present the material conscientiously.
  • Make himself or herself available for student consultations and provide guidance to students to promote student learning and success.
  • Meet all scheduled classes and final presentations as scheduled.
  • Be informed of the College’s support services for students and recommend their use, when advisable. Make every reasonable effort to attend scheduled staff meetings.
  • Behave appropriately in dealing with students and staff to maintain a scholarly and professional atmosphere.
