Join Our Mission
Light of the World Academy (LOTWA) is seeking a dedicated, student-centered Middle School Teacher to lead a self-contained classroom for students in grades 7 and 8. We are looking for an educator who is passionate about helping students grow academically, socially, and emotionally while creating a positive and engaging classroom culture.
While an English Language Arts (ELA) background is preferred
, we welcome candidates from other educational backgrounds who possess strong instructional skills and a commitment to student success.
The ideal candidate will have excellent classroom management skills, experience working with middle school students, and a passion for fostering critical thinking, collaboration, and lifelong learning.
Experience with
Montessori education
, project-based learning
, or other student-centered instructional approaches is highly desirable.
Responsibilities
- Provide instruction in a self-contained 7th and 8th grade classroom.
- Develop and deliver engaging lessons aligned with Michigan academic standards.
- Foster a positive classroom environment that promotes student achievement and personal growth.
- Utilize effective classroom management strategies to maintain a productive learning environment.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners.
- Assess student progress and communicate effectively with families regarding academic performance.
- Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and support staff to ensure student success.
- Participate in school activities, meetings, and professional development opportunities.
- Integrate project-based and experiential learning opportunities whenever possible.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in education or related field
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with Elementary Education endorsement with eligibility to teach grades 7 and 8 in a self-contained classroom.
- Excellent communication, organization, and relationship-building abilities.
- Commitment to supporting the academic and social-emotional development of middle school students.
Preferred
- Experience teaching middle school students.
- Background or endorsement in English Language Arts.
- Montessori experience or familiarity with Montessori philosophy.
- Experience with project-based learning and student-centered instructional practices.
- Demonstrated success creating engaging and rigorous learning environments.
Alternative Certification Candidates
Candidates who are actively enrolled in a teacher certification program and nearing completion of certification requirements may be considered.
