JOB SUMMARY: The Teacher Consultant will be responsible for the coordination, development, and implementation of instructional programs within assigned areas. The Teacher Consultant will also work with teachers to ensure all district, state and federal compliance requirements are met and maintained.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Evidence of a minimum of 3 years of satisfactory teaching experience, not less than 2 years of which shall be teaching in a special education program.
  • Demonstrate ability to work with people of diverse pedagogical backgrounds to develop plans to meet student needs.
  • SPED Certification in at least one area of disability (CI, EI, LD, etc).
  • Master’s Degree in Education
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Creatively identify and solve academic and social challenges for students by collaborating with classroom teachers and ancillary staff to meet diverse student needs
  • Collaborate with local district building administration, instructional staff, medical staff, and other agencies to integrate students into the community, with emphasis on involving families, adapting curriculum, facilitating natural supports, and focusing instruction on long‑term outcomes.
  • Complete, document and facilitate IEPs consistent with district, state, and federal laws and guidelines.
  • Facilitate in‑service and other staff development activities which enable staff to develop attitudes and skills associated with current concepts in education.
  • Assist with developing effective classroom management systems and provide coaching to staff.
  • Conduct classroom student observations and follow up meeting with staff.
  • Provide direct academic/social instruction, resource, and accommodations to students in the general education environment.
  • Assist in the development of transition plans for students.
  • Initiate positive parent relationships and communications.
  • Perform informal and formal assessments related to disability, when appropriate.
  • Other duties assigned by administration

  • Ability to take initiative and make decisions under pressure, work well with others as a collaborative team member, and exhibit good communication skills.
  • Ability to work creatively and skillfully with students.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with other departments, agencies, and individuals.
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy and understanding for families of various cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to consult effectively with teachers, parents, administrators, and other professionals.
