Position: Dental Assistant Instructor (Part-Time/Adjunct) - Dearborn, MI

Job Overview

The Dental Assistant Instructor is entrusted with imparting the knowledge and skills each student needs to be successful by providing quality delivery of assigned courses while ensuring that all students achieve competency in the course objectives. Instructors evaluate and resolve student questions, issues and problems, and ensure appropriate action is taken to the satisfaction of the student, Dorsey Schools, and/or regulatory agencies in compliance with policy, procedures, and legal requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver quality classroom instruction in lecture, clinical, and/or laboratory format based on the approved course outline.
  • Select and utilize a variety of approved course materials and teaching methods that address all learning modalities to meet the needs of individual students.
  • Assess student learning using appropriate methods and demonstrate effectiveness with strong outcomes in Student Retention, Student Success, and Student Attendance.
  • Conduct engaging classroom lectures and/or labs based on the course outline.
  • Motivate students by demonstrating sensitivity for concerns and actively involving them in classroom discussions and activities.
  • Advise students on attendance, grades, and issues to ensure successful completion of their course.
  • Contact absentee students by text, email, and/or phone as needed to improve retention.
  • Manage classroom environment through compliance with campus policies, including classroom management, attendance, punctuality, and professionalism.
  • Ensure instructor preparedness before class by listing Instructor Name, Contact Information, Date, Class Name, Day’s Objectives, and Next Session Objectives on the whiteboard.
  • Monitor and prepare supplies and equipment, informing appropriate campus personnel when areas require attention.
  • Participate in faculty, staff, committee, and in‑service meetings; attendance at commencement is strongly encouraged.
  • Demonstrate professional growth in the subject taught through activities such as membership in educational associations, continuing education, and professional experience.
  • Actively support other departments such as Financial Aid, Admissions, and Career Services.
  • Maintain employer relationships with at least annual contacts (site visits or phone conversations).
  • Ensure all educational activity is conducted in a legal and ethical manner and demonstrate continuous improvement within the Faculty Development Program or other criteria such as Success Rate, Retention Rate, and Final Exam Pass Rates.
Qualifications
  • Must be resourceful, able to problem‑solve, and able to work independently and cooperatively as a team.
  • Must possess a positive attitude, initiative, and creativity; must be able to motivate staff.
  • Proficient with basic office equipment, computers, and computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite.
Minimum Qualifications
  • At least a high school diploma or equivalent; some programs require further education.
  • Prior teaching experience is preferred where applicable.
  • Require a degree, diploma, or certificate in the field taught from a post‑secondary institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. DOE and two years of documented experience in the subject taught, or three years of significant job‑related documented experience for those instructors without specific education in the field.
Certifications Required

Certification from a recognized certification agency in the field taught must be obtained within 120 days of the first day teaching class at Dorsey Schools and maintained according to the certification agency guidelines.

Working / Physical Demands

The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit for extended periods of time, and have sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate a phone, computer keyboard, and other office equipment. Evening or weekend hours, if necessary, to meet deadlines and meet with prospective students. This position is in an office setting with light to moderate noise levels, entails extended periods of sitting and computer work.
