AboutThe Role
The University of Canberra’s Faculty of Science & Technology is recruiting for a Head of School, Information Technology and Systems to join cutting edge research and inspire forward thinking education. Providing strategic leadership, the head of school position plays a critical role in advancing teaching excellence while fostering industry engagement and contributing to high-impact research. The school’s capabilities span AI, robotics, network engineering, cybersecurity, software engineering, information systems, and data science, anchored by widely recognized expertise in AI, robotics, network engineering, and cybersecurity.
Its industry-relevant programs are aligned with the rapidly evolving demands of the job market.
The role requires a visionary academic leader with a passion for shaping the future of information technology education and research. The Head of School is instrumental in the leadership and contribution of the school’s advancement, initiatives, growth, Faculty strategy, both research and education excellence, and diversification of revenue streams including industry partnerships.
Key Responsibilities- Leading and managing academic staff
- Promotion of high-quality teaching, learning, and student experience across all delivery modes
- Driving curriculum renewal to ensure programs remain contemporary and industry-relevant
- Fostering a strong research culture and interdisciplinary collaboration
- Building and strengthening partnerships with industry, government, and community stakeholders
- Oversee academic program quality and accreditation requirements
- Manage the School’s budget in collaboration with Faculty leadership
To be successful in this role you will be an experienced and collaborative leader in the field of Information Technology and Systems with a strong academic track record and the ability to inspire others. Other requirements include:
- Proven leadership experience in higher education or a related sector
- Demonstrated understanding of accreditation, quality assurance, and regulatory frameworks (e.g., TEQSA)
- A record of excellence and innovation in teaching, research, and industry engagement
- A commitment to building partnerships and delivering impactful outcomes for students and stakeholders
- Strong people leadership with a collaborative approach and excellent communication skills
- Academic expertise in a relevant field, such as AI, Robotics, Network Engineering, or Cybersecurity, would be advantageous.
