Battery Structures & Enclosures Design Release Engineer
Our client in Dearborn, MI is seeking a Battery Structures & Enclosures Design Release Engineer. This is a contract position.
Key Responsibilities- Design and release battery pack enclosures and structural components, including cold plates and sealing systems, for electric vehicle applications
- Support all design phase deliverables from concept development through production launch
- Manage and coordinate the battery structure supply base, including cost, timing, product, and manufacturing changes
- Collaborate with supplier manufacturing, Supplier Technical Assistance (STA), and quality teams to ensure design-for-assembly and manufacturability feasibility
- Develop, maintain, and review quality and engineering documentation, including DFMEA, SCCAF, and P-Diagrams
- Support on-time delivery of prototype and production builds, including DV/PV testing and launch activities
- Lead Battery Structure OPD and SREA change management initiatives
- Apply strong GD&T knowledge, including creation and execution of tolerance stack-ups and review of DVA results
- Drive timely resolution of AIMS issues, including development of ICA/PCA plans and execution of 8D problem-solving work streams
- Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Master of Science (M.S.) in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline strongly preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in the manufacturing and development of metal components and structural systems
- Experience using CAD/CAE tools with the ability to design and optimize components and tooling for stamping, welding, sheet metal, extrusions, and castings
- Hands-on experience with aluminum structures, castings, and sheet metal joining processes, including MIG welding, self-piercing rivets (SPR), laser welding, and spot welding
- Strong teamwork, collaboration, and communication skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Proficient computer and technical documentation skills
- Engineering experience in battery system design, integration, controls, testing, or system interactions for electrified vehicles
- Demonstrated record of innovation, including invention disclosures, patents, or technical publications
- Strong CAD/CAE capability with experience using CATIA, Teamcenter, tolerance stack-up tools, fastener health charts, and GD&T
- Experience supporting PPAP activities and production launch processes
