Job Summary

The Design & Release Engineer is responsible for leading component and system-level design and release activities for internal combustion engine (ICE) powertrain systems. This role supports the full product development lifecycle, including design, validation, supplier management, change control, and launch support, ensuring compliance with cost, quality, timing, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities Design & Release Engineering
  • Perform Design & Release engineering activities at component and system levels.
  • Execute CAD and CAE updates as required.
  • Own engine sub-system design release process using OEM PLM systems (e.g., Teamcenter, CATIA).
  • Approve drawings, BOMs, part numbers, and configuration content.
  • Support and maintain engine BOM.
  • Perform WERS release and participate in change control processes.
  • Manage Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
  • Ensure design change impacts to cost, quality, emissions, and timing are evaluated and communicated.
Validation & Development
  • Follow Design Change Checklist to understand required DV and PV for each part.
  • Develop and maintain DVP&R for systems and components.
  • Support DV/PV testing including durability, thermal, NVH, performance, and emissions.
  • Coordinate prototype, mule, and pre-production engine builds.
  • Manage new supplier interactions with support from Ford STA team.
  • Move multiple parts across various engine platforms to alternative suppliers.
  • Create and maintain detailed development work plans aligned with program timing.
APQP & Launch Support
  • Lead Validation, APQP, and launch support activities.
  • Lead engine sub-system related APQP activities including:
  • DFMEA
  • PFMEA
  • SCAAFS
  • Control Plans
  • Support PPAP readiness and launch activities.
Systems Scope

Focus includes, but is not limited to:

  • Exhaust / after-treatment systems
  • Turbochargers and air induction systems
  • Thermal systems
  • Fuel, ignition, and evaporative emissions systems
  • Other ICE powertrain systems
Quality, Compliance & Risk
  • Ensure quality, regulatory compliance, and risk management across all design and release activities.
Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or related Engineering field.
Experience
  • 6+ years of internal combustion engine development experience.
  • Prior experience in design release or technical leadership roles.
  • Ford experience is required.
Technical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of engine systems, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with APQP, DFMEA, PPAP, and product launch support.
  • Proficiency with CAD and PLM tools (e.g., CATIA and Teamcenter).
