In this position, you will lead and develop standards to ensure common Mechanical Tool Designs across all commodities and programs within Body Construction. You will provide the proficiency required to implement lessons learned, employee training, and Global Vehicle Operations Standards & Systems (GVOSS). This role involves fostering and mentoring BCE Engineers and OEMs through Design Profession Assessment (DPA) and Tool Design reviews to ensure production tooling meets GVOSS intent, is robust, and is appropriate for the application.
You will maintain process and launch expertise in tooling and process development, with the opportunity to specialize in advanced manufacturing areas such as Closures and Hemming.
- Design Oversight:
Coordinate Mechanical Tooling Design Kick‑off meetings with suppliers and lead the mechanical design portion of supplier design reviews across various commodities. - Standards & Compliance:
Ensure Mechanical Tooling meets GVOSS intent. Update the Mechanical section of GVOSS based on lessons learned and program feedback. - Strategic Evaluation:
Evaluate new mechanical tooling opportunities, manufacturing strategies, and testing protocols prior to incorporation into programs (e.g., leading shop trials). - Technical Reviews:
Review DPA/FIDES CAD models and sign off on End Effector concept designs. - Systems Integration:
Lead the evaluation of robot end‑of‑arm tooling (EOAT), racks, and products to ensure vision system requirements, tolerances, and targets are achievable. - Supplier Management:
Drive Tier 2 involvement and sign‑off at the design phase. Ensure supplier tool builds and FTF (First Tool Finished) delivery schedules support program milestones. - Cost & Efficiency:
Review tool designs to identify cost efficiencies and achieve best‑in‑class Ford costing. - Problem Solving:
Lead 8D closure on issues generated through buyoffs and support tooling buyoffs at the integrator. - Program Alignment:
Ensure tooling consistency across all programs, managing deviations only when product accommodations cannot be made.
- Education:
Bachelor of Science Degree – Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or equivalent. - Experience:
5+ years of experience with tooling, manufacturing processes, and facilities. - Launch
Experience:
Participation in at least 2 major program launches. - Software: 1 or more years of experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Experience:
10+ years of experience specifically within Closure Manufacturing and Hemming Facilities. - Technical Tools:
Solid background with virtual manufacturing tools and FIDES/DPA CAD environments. - Soft Skills:
Excellent communication and presentation skills for mentoring and supplier negotiations. - Statistical Knowledge:
Working knowledge of statistics (control charts, data collection, etc.).
This position is a salary grade 6-8 and ranges from $72,. Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
