Software Engineer, Systems Engineer
Ford’s Electric Vehicles, Digital and Design (EVDD) team is seeking a Chassis HIL Simulation Engineer who will drive the creation and implementation of virtual testing methodologies, integrate plant models with controller software, and automate key build and test processes to reduce reliance on physical vehicle testing.
Responsibilities- Define efficient physical and virtual software validation methods by integrating plant models with controller software source code.
- Develop scripts and tools to automate software builds for virtualization.
- Coordinate cross‑functional teams to deliver in‑house and supplier software components compatible with virtual test environments.
- Create virtual test environments and test cases for HW‑dependent testing through simulation.
- Collaborate with HIL, DIL, and Vehicle in the Loop Simulator teams to reduce vehicle‑level testing reliance.
- Automate builds, tests, data analysis, and reporting.
- Integrate CI tools into existing CAE environment pipelines.
- Maintain tools and integrations across repositories, software suites, and CAE environments.
- BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- At least 2 years of control system development experience.
- At least 2 years of experience with Matlab/Simulink tools.
- At least 2 years of experience integrating auto‑generated or hand‑coded C code into target ECUs and computer simulation objects.
- MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- Familiarity with Embedded Tester, dSPACE, ECU‑Test, and Vector tools.
- Experience developing automation scripts and GUI applications (Python, Matlab, C++, C#, Java).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines in Jenkins.
- Experience building plant and controller models for automotive braking, steering, and suspension systems.
- Experience with HIL and DIL simulators and deploying software on external target ECUs.
- Experience with Vehicle CAN network.
- Experience in system dynamics modeling using first principles and tools like Car Sim or Car Maker.
- Experience with Software Configuration Management Systems (Git, Clear Case).
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. This position is hybrid; candidates within commuting distance may be required to be on site four or more days per week.
