Job Description & How to Apply Below
As part of our Manufacturing team, you'll help build the world-class, state-of-the-art smart vehicles we're known for. In our plants around the world, we're constantly developing new technologies and processes to further increase our efficiency. You'll get the satisfaction of making great products people use and love.
In this position...
Lead and develop standards to ensure common Mechanical Tool Designs across all commodities and programs within Body Construction. You will provide the proficiency required to implement lessons learned, employee training, and Global Vehicle Operations Standards & Systems (GVOSS). This role involves fostering and mentoring BCE Engineers and OEMs through Design Profession Assessment (DPA) and Tool Design reviews to ensure production tooling meets GVOSS intent, is robust, and is appropriate for the application.
You will maintain process and launch expertise in tooling and process development, with the opportunity to specialize in advanced manufacturing areas such as Closures and Hemming.
Lead the development of global mechanical tooling standards within Body Construction Core Engineering. In this high-impact role, you will oversee supplier design reviews, mentor engineers, and ensure GVOSS compliance across all commodities. This position offers a unique opportunity to specialize in advanced manufacturing areas like Closures and Hemming.
What you'll do...
* Design Oversight:
Coordinate Mechanical Tooling Design Kick-off meetings with suppliers and lead the mechanical design portion of supplier design reviews across various commodities.
* Standards & Compliance:
Ensure Mechanical Tooling meets GVOSS intent. Update the Mechanical section of GVOSS based on lessons learned and program feedback.
* Strategic Evaluation:
Evaluate new mechanical tooling opportunities, manufacturing strategies, and testing protocols prior to incorporation into programs (e.g., leading shop trials).
* Technical Reviews:
Review DPA/FIDES CAD models and sign off on End Effector concept designs.
* Systems Integration:
Lead the evaluation of robot end-of-arm tooling (EOAT), racks, and products to ensure vision system requirements, tolerances, and targets are achievable.
* Supplier Management:
Drive Tier 2 involvement and sign-off at the design phase. Ensure supplier tool builds and FTF (First Tool Finished) delivery schedules support program milestones.
* Cost & Efficiency:
Review tool designs to identify cost efficiencies and achieve best-in-class Ford costing.
* Problem Solving:
Lead 8D closure on issues generated through buyoffs and support tooling buyoffs at the integrator.
* Program Alignment:
Ensure tooling consistency across all programs, managing deviations only when product accommodations cannot be made.
