Job TitleEngine Test Technician – Engine Dyno Lab, Dearborn, MI
Shift ScheduleMidnight Shift: 11 pm – 7:30 am
Responsibilities- Conduct a wide variety of non-procedural gasoline and diesel engine dynamometer testing.
- Support development, durability, and performance testing in an engine dynamometer facility.
- Collect, review, and validate data for accuracy and completeness; make recommendations to engineering.
- Fabricate basic fixtures.
- Interface with Technologists, Product Engineers, and Supervisors on updates, new test procedures, equipment, and methods.
- Verify calibration and maintenance of test equipment and test systems.
- Install engines on dynamometer, hook up instrumentation, diagnose and troubleshoot problems, conduct tests, change engine parts if necessary, and remove engine and instrumentation.
- High School Diploma.
- Good interpersonal, computer, oral, and written communication skills.
- Basic knowledge of engines and powertrain.
- Working toward an Associate’s Degree in Automotive Technology or related field, or equivalent experience in gasoline and diesel engine testing.
- Experience in engines/powertrain dynamometer testing or similar testing techniques.
Physical Requirements
- Lifting:
Able to lift 50 lbs and engine parts such as intakes, exhausts, heads, and drive shafts. - Special clothing/equipment:
Safety glasses, slip‑resistant hard‑toe shoes, gloves, long pants, short‑sleeve shirts. - Physical activity:
Sitting 50%, standing 50%, bending 25%, stooping 25%. - Work environment:
High noise level during engine operation; exposure to hot and cold temperatures (up to –20°F during cold starts). - Hazardous conditions:
Rotating equipment, hot exhaust, trip hazards.
- Successful completion of a pre‑employment drug screen and background check.
- Professional behavior in interactions with customers, management, and co‑workers.
- Clear, concise, and accurate communication skills in English (verbal and written).
- Appropriate grooming and dress that do not present a safety risk.
- Dependable personal transportation to the work site.
