POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Summer Intern to join our Research & Development team, focusing on the characterization of materials used in Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) applications. The intern will work alongside experienced engineers and researchers to support testing, data collection, analysis, and documentation of material properties critical to NVH performance. This is a hands-on opportunity to gain real-world R&D experience in a fast-paced engineering environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in the preparation, handling, and testing of materials (foams, composites, damping materials, polymers) for NVH characterization.
  • Conduct laboratory experiments to measure acoustic, mechanical, and vibrational properties of materials, including dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), impedance tube testing, and transmission loss measurements.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze experimental data using software tools such as MATLAB, Python, or equivalent.
  • Support the development and validation of material models used in NVH simulations and finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Maintain accurate lab notebooks, test records, and contribute to technical reports summarizing findings.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to understand NVH performance targets and material requirements.
  • Research and review relevant literature on advanced materials and NVH characterization methodologies.
  • Follow all laboratory safety protocols and contribute to a culture of safety and quality.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Currently enrolled in a BS or MS program in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Acoustical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Completion of coursework in dynamics, vibrations, materials science, or acoustics.
  • Basic proficiency in data analysis tools (MATLAB, Python, or equivalent).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow structured testing procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Prior laboratory experience or coursework in acoustics, vibrations, or material testing.
  • Familiarity with NVH concepts such as sound absorption, insertion loss, damping, and structural resonance.
  • Experience with measurement hardware and data acquisition systems (e.g., National Instruments, LMS, or similar).
  • Exposure to CAE/FEA tools (ANSYS, Abaqus, or equivalent).
  • Experience with impedance tube or reverberation room testing methods.
WHAT YOU WILL GAIN
  • Hands-on experience in a professional R&D laboratory environment.
  • Exposure to industry-standard NVH testing and characterization methodologies.
  • Mentorship from experienced engineers and researchers.
  • Opportunity to contribute to real projects with direct impact on product development.
  • Potential pathways to full-time employment upon graduation.
