Position: Mechanical Test Technician, I

Test Technician, I - Dearborn, MI

Responsibilities
  • Set up Mechanical, Hydraulic, Pneumatic, or Electrical test equipment such as Powertrain Dynamo meters in accordance with engineering specifications, standards, or test procedures.
  • Setup and Test Electrical Harnesses and/or components in accordance with Customer Specifications.
  • Ensure fixtures for the parts, measurements, and pictures are appropriate and validated to ensure function and fit exists.
  • Monitor machine-controlled test equipment to ensure the test is performing as expected, documenting any activity that is not expected.
  • Ensure test results are complete and accurate and re-work is not required.
  • Inspect or test parts to determine nature or cause of defects or malfunctions.
  • Document and report all defects or malfunctions so appropriate decisions can be made by customers/engineers.
  • Document test results, using cameras, spreadsheets, documents, or other tools.
  • Preparation of test parts including digital caliper measurements and/or digital scales for weighing the sample parts provided by the customer.
  • Lab Maintenance / Post-Test Breakdown:
    Physically remove test items. Maintain lab by cleaning all equipment, keeping calibrated instruments current, and organizing supplies.
  • Act independently to determine methods and procedures on new assignments, acting as a facilitator.
  • Consistently work on complex assignments requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve issues.
  • Regular interaction with Customers.
  • Develop and/or assist in building lab test fixtures.
  • Assist other departments as needed for setups and teardowns of various test equipment.
  • Ensure work is performed in a safe manner using all available safety equipment.
  • All other related duties as assigned.
  • Possess mental faculties consistent with performing the minimum requirements of the job.

Qualifications
  • Associate of Science in Engineering Technology or a related field preferred.
  • High school Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in an automotive engineering laboratory or equivalent related work experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Completed coursework in digital electronics, circuit functions, and basic electronics preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand Electrical Schematics preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of pneumatics/hydraulic systems controls preferred.
  • Basic PLC skills and knowledge of Allen Bradley drives, Unico Drive systems.
  • Proven experience using lathe machine and/or Bridgeport for fabrication and/or milling.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk.
  • Ability to speak verbally and read in English.
  • Ability to see with corrective lenses.
  • Ability to hear.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, crouch, reach, hand-eye coordination, and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to use a computer.
  • Able to work overtime, evenings and/or weekends as required to facilitate testing needs and customer timelines.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% domestically.
