In this position, a newly created role will help drive more innovation into new Ford seat and restraints projects. The candidate will act as an engineering project manager assisting core/research teams bring high‑value projects from key stakeholders into programs.

The Product Development Engineer is responsible for managing product release CAD and BOM structures, including assembly positioning and mass attribute analysis. This role also includes facilitating supplier data integration and developing CAD studies to support and drive design improvements.

The Product Development Engineer is expected to understand and effectively utilize product check‑in/check‑out processes, version control, data release, and change management within Ford’s PLM ecosystem.

The Product Development Engineer will perform feasibility analyses using CAD tools, including draft angle analysis, undercut detection, minimum bend radius validation for sheet metal, and clearance checks to support manufacturing and machining requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Lead organization of internal innovation reviews including but not limited to internal tech shows and monthly innovation meetings.
  • Work with cross‑functional teams to serve as the project manager to bring ideas from concepts to application‑ready projects that can be sourced by programs.
  • Assist with core foundation documentation creation including but not limited to P‑Diagrams, RCLs, DFMEAs and SCCAFs.
  • Interface with program, marketing, studio and pre‑PSC teams to identify projects to bring forward to the development stage.
  • Assist with creation of business cases in order to prove project financial feasibility.
  • Benchmark competitive set on new seat features.
  • Meet with suppliers to create a catalog of new technologies.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
  • 6+ years of seat and restraints product development engineering.
  • Master's degree in engineering or related field (preferred).
  • Highly organized and motivated self‑starter.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • CAD capable.

This position is a salary grade 5 and ranges from $65,100–$109,300.

This position is a salary grade 6 and ranges from $74,300–$124,500.

This position is a salary grade 7 and ranges from $86,600–$144,900.

This position is a salary grade 8 and ranges from $99,100–$166,200.

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.

This position is hybrid. Candidates who are in commuting distance to a Ford hub location may be required to be onsite four or more days per week.
