Dynamometer Test Technician

Overview

We are the world’s top supplier of automotive test facilities, providing a full range of services to commercial automotive industry customers. Customers include not only the world’s major vehicle providers and other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), but also clients from the international motor sports community. We are hiring a Dynamometer Test Technician to work at the Research Innovation lab in Dearborn, MI.

• Conduct engine durability and performance testing: initial setup of engine and testing equipment, collection of data, performing periodic checks during the test, and engine teardown post‑test.
• Fabricate basic fixtures.
• Interface with Technologists, Product Engineers, and Supervisors on updates/new test procedures, equipment and methods.
• Verify the calibration and maintenance of test equipment and test systems.
• Install engines on dynamometer, hook up instrumentation, hook up exhaust, diagnose/troubleshoot problems with engine or data equipment, conduct tests, change engine parts (setup or teardown), and remove engine and instrumentation.

• High School Diploma (minimum).
• Good interpersonal, computer, oral and written skills.
• Engine experience, working knowledge of a 4‑stroke engine (Gas or Diesel) and ability to identify engine parts and how they work.
• Understanding of engine designs, engine part changes, and following torque specs.
• General hand tool experience for engine build and part changes; fabrication skills (drill press, bandsaws, welding, etc.).
• Detail oriented and organized (verbal and written). Follow directions from multiple sources.
• Good housekeeping of work area and equipment, valid driver’s license.
• Preferred:
  Associate degree in Automotive Technology or related field; teardown/build experience of Gasoline and Diesel engine; experience in engines/powertrain dynamometer testing or other similar testing techniques; troubleshooting skills (engine/facility); ASE certification or working towards them.

• Lifting: up to 50 lbs.
• Climbing 0%;
  Crawling 20%.
• Special clothing/equipment: safety glasses, slip‑resistant hardened toe shoes, gloves, long pants, short sleeve shirts.
• Work involves manual labor; high noise level within the test cell; exposure to hot temperatures and cold start tests (engine can be soaked to
  -20°F).
• Hazardous conditions: rotating equipment, engines, hot exhaust, trip hazards.

• 8 hours per day, Monday‑Friday. Day shift 7:00a.m.–3:30p.m.; may need flexibility to cover other shifts, weekend work, or overtime.
