Controls Engineer

• Lead the assembly and machining controls engineering deliverables for VOME & PTO programs, from simultaneous engineering through program launch for all Global VOME & PTO sites.
• Implement and apply standard software and hardware controls architectures across all programs/plants, following the VOME & PTO specification.
• Ensure the identification and capture of lessons learned and apply them to new programs, assessing impact on existing strategies and standards.
• Lead simultaneous engineering meetings with Tier I suppliers to orchestrate controls program reviews.
• Participate in management program reviews and represent the controls organization in commodity discussions.
• Drive the controls organization to resolve issues concerning feasibility, timing, cost, and workload.
• Respond to emergency downtime events.
• Handle current scope program responsibilities.
• Deliver new‑model program work for various Powertrain programs supporting SE MI, Ohio, Kansas City, and Windsor, ON.
• Travel up to 80 % during peak program times, including Kansas City, Tennessee & Kentucky.
• Work off‑shift as needed during peak program install and launch times.

Significant travel to supplier sites and Ford assembly plants is required (50‑75%).

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering or equivalent; 5+ years in Controls Engineering with strong ability to learn and apply controls knowledge.
• Applied experience in Structured Control Language (SCL) including FC/FB editing and creation.
• Software programming experience in Rockwell & Siemens – both preferred.
• Direct program experience with assembly, machining and tooling for Powertrain & Vehicle equipment.
• Ability to engineer and implement controls architectures (hardware/software).
• Validated programming capabilities with Siemens, Schneider, Bosch PLCs and CNC/Motion control systems.
• Hands‑on knowledge and troubleshooting skills for PLC, CNC, robot, vision and other automation issues.
• Skill in cell machining systems and integration of CNC controls, gantries and auxiliary equipment.
• Knowledge of assembly and machining RFID systems and QOS strategies.
• Knowledge of international electrical/safety standards (UL, ISO, IEC) and familiarity with internal/external safety processes (risk assessments, PSS, coordinated safety).
• Read and design electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic prints.
• Understanding of communication network architectures and field‑bus protocols.
• Knowledge of PTME IT standard footprint applications such as FIS, QLS, QWX, GPTS, QDAS, OBL, PDS and EP‑Operator system.
• Familiarity with program delivery elements from the cost‑study phase to launch.
• Process engineering knowledge including GPDS deliverables and plant‑operational impact of controls designs.
• Experience interacting with senior management, process engineering, safety, IT and plant production teams.
• Self‑starter, self‑directed with strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Robust manufacturing background with heavy emphasis on production‑related controls experience.
• Strong leadership skills with ability to lead in technical aspects of the role.
• At least one year of experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Ability to implement AI models to existing work streams to improve team efficiency.
• Experience using problem‑solving skills within FMEA, DOE, DMAIC, 5‑D, 8‑D processes.
