Electronics Technician, Test Engineer
Technician / Technologist – Chassis Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) Testing
This role focuses on building, assembling, and maintaining chassis component hardware test stands for a Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) testing team. You will work hands-on with wiring, bracket and stand fabrication, Arduino-based hardware interfaces, and vehicle component assembly in non-vehicle setups to support robust and reliable chassis testing.
Responsibilities- Build and maintain chassis component hardware test stands for HiL testing, ensuring they operate reliably and safely.
- Assemble and fabricate brackets and test stands, including machining parts to meet specific design and test requirements.
- Prototype HiL hardware solutions for chassis components, including integrating vehicle hardware into non-vehicle test setups.
- Perform vehicle component assembly on test stands, ensuring correct fit, function, and alignment with test specifications.
- Design, build, and route wiring harnesses for chassis test stands, following best practices for safety, reliability, and serviceability.
- Read and interpret wiring schematics to build, troubleshoot, and modify electrical wiring and harness assemblies.
- Create or update wiring schematics as needed to document test stand wiring configurations and changes.
- Install and connect Arduino-based hardware interfaces within test stands to support control, monitoring, and automation.
- Inspect, test, and maintain existing test stands, identifying and resolving mechanical and electrical issues to minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with engineers and other team members to understand test requirements and translate them into practical hardware and wiring solutions.
- Organize and maintain tools, materials, and work areas associated with test stand fabrication, wiring, and assembly.
- 1–3 years of experience in a technician or technologist role, or in a similar hands-on hardware testing, fabrication, or electrical assembly position.
- Demonstrated experience in prototyping hardware solutions, particularly for test stands or similar setups.
- Ability to build and maintain Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) hardware solutions for chassis components.
- Proficiency in test stand builds and maintenance, including mechanical assembly and integration of components.
- Hands-on machining skills for test stand part creation and fabrication, including working with brackets and structural elements.
- Strong electrical wiring skills, including building wiring harnesses and routing cables for test stands.
- Ability to read and interpret wiring schematics accurately for assembly and troubleshooting.
- Ability to create or modify wiring schematics to reflect actual test stand configurations.
- Experience with Arduino-based wiring and hardware interfaces for test stands or similar applications.
- High school diploma or GED.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience assembling vehicle components in non-vehicle setups, such as bench or rig environments.
- Comfort working closely with engineers and test personnel to implement and refine hardware solutions.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills when working with multiple components, wiring harnesses, and test configurations.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues in test stands and implement effective fixes.
- Interest in automotive chassis systems and hardware testing environments.
You will work in a hands-on test and fabrication environment focused on chassis Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) testing. The role involves regular use of machining tools for creating and modifying test stand parts, as well as hand tools and electrical tools for wiring harness builds and hardware assembly. You will work around vehicle components integrated into non-vehicle setups, including benches and rigs, and you will regularly interface with Arduino-based hardware and related electronic equipment.
The environment emphasizes safety, precision, and collaboration, with a mix of mechanical fabrication, electrical wiring, and test stand maintenance activities throughout the workday.
This is a Contract position based out of Dearborn, MI.
