Lead and support the development, installation, launch, and continuous improvement of round part and crankshaft machining systems for new and existing powertrain programs. This LL6 role combines manufacturing engineering leadership, process expertise, supplier coordination, supervisory responsibilities, and cross-functional execution to deliver safe, high-quality, cost-effective, and efficient machining solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the onsite installation, launch, and implementation of round part and crankshaft machining components and manufacturing systems.
  • Develop and maintain machining strategies, Bills of Process, standardized machine and process specifications, SQFs, EVPs, and related engineering standards to ensure consistency across programs.
  • Provide extensive machining process expertise, including steel and iron metal cutting, grinding, GD&T, blueprint reading, tolerance stack-up, process design, and heat treat feasibility development.
  • Interface with Product Engineering, Manufacturing Operations, suppliers, purchasing, and cross-functional support groups including Controls, IT, MP&L, Material Handling, Plant Engineering, Productivity, and related teams.
  • Teach and mentor the development of crankshaft tooling and gauging principles within the team.
  • Evaluate machining and assembly feasibility using DFM/DFA principles, discrete event simulation, constraint analysis, lean material flow, and time-and-motion study methods.
  • Initiate, evaluate, recap, and support bids for equipment purchases; approve purchase requisitions; and lead procurement activities for new programs and CIB projects.
  • Drive resolution of major issues following Build Purchase Order placement and provide technical support to internal organizations, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Work with internal and external forging suppliers to optimize material distribution, balance, and overall quality.
  • Lead APQP, PPAP, peer review meetings, FMEA, 8D, R&M, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and continuous improvement activities using EWS, ME Lessons Learned, eCCARS, and the Deviation/Decision Record process.
  • Assign resources, establish priorities, and fully utilize engineering talent to support programs, launches, and organizational objectives across North American engine plants.
  • Perform supervisory responsibilities including setting objectives and goals, coaching, mentoring, performance reviews, travel requests, timecard approvals, and participation in reviews for matrixed program resources.
Qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related Engineering discipline required;
Master of Science, MBA, or other advanced degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering, launch, machining process engineering, or manufacturing plant operations.
  • Project, program, launch, and team leadership experience required
  • Extensive manufacturing process knowledge.
  • Solid understanding of GD&T, blue print reading, tolerance stack up and process design.
  • Understand lean material flow principles and integrate within machining system layout.
  • Understand time and motion study principles and be able to apply to machining process design.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Ability to explain complex processes and interactions in simple terms.
  • Self motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficient computer, written and oral skills.
  • Excellent data analysis and interpretation capabilities.
  • Flexibility to travel to plants in Michigan and surrounding states; approximately 50% of the time. This position will be based in SE Michigan, but at times will require extensive travel to plants.
