In this position...
The Technical Documentation Engineer owns the creation, control, and governance of technical quality documentation across the Ford Energy Quality organization. Rigorous documentation is the backbone of audit-readiness, certification maintenance, and organizational knowledge retention — this role ensures that DFMEA/PFMEA records, test reports, RCA documentation, and quality process standards are consistent, traceable, current, and instantly retrievable when needed for an audit, certification review, or internal investigation.

What you'll do...

• Documentation Standards & Governance
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation standards and templates for quality processes, test reports, and engineering records.
  • Establish document numbering, classification, and metadata conventions to ensure consistency across the organization.
  • Partner with engineering and quality teams to standardize templates for DFMEA/PFMEA, test reports, and RCA records and ensure alignment between all documents.
• Document Control & Change Management
  • Manage document control processes, including revision history, approval workflows, and archival, in coordination with the PLM Engineer.
  • Administer document review and approval cycles, ensuring appropriate stakeholder sign-off before release.
  • Maintain obsolescence/retirement processes for superseded documentation.

You'll have...

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technical Writing, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience with document control systems and technical writing in a regulated engineering environment.
• Strong attention to detail and process discipline.

Even better, you may have...

• Experience with document control in a certified quality management system (ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or similar).
• Familiarity with PLM-integrated document control workflows.
• Experience supporting external audits (customer, regulatory, or certification body) in a documentation-lead capacity.

  • Occasional work in high-voltage or industrial environments may be required, with appropriate training and personal protective equipment (PPE).
