Job Summary

The Enterprise Payment Fraud Strategist role is responsible for developing, implementing, and optimizing the organization’s fraud prevention strategy across customer/consumer payment channels and global payment platforms. This role leads efforts to mitigate fraud losses while balancing customer/consumer experience, sales conversion, and operational efficiency. The position partners closely with internal stakeholders across Customer/consumer Service, Cyber Security, IT, Finance, eCommerce, Digital Product, Legal/Compliance, and Operations, as well as external payment processors, issuers, acquirers, fraud solution providers, and other payment ecosystem partners.

This role owns the fraud strategy framework for customer/consumer payments, including fraud controls, detection rules, manual review processes, chargeback mitigation, monitoring, loss reporting, and performance measurement. The Enterprise Payment Fraud Strategist role is also responsible for establishing key fraud metrics and KPIs, analyzing fraud trends, evaluating the total cost of fraud, and recommending strategies that reduce risk while supporting business growth.

Associate Responsibilities

  • Develop and own the enterprise fraud strategy for customer/consumer payment activity across all relevant sales channels.
  • Establish the fraud strategy framework including risk-based decisioning principles, control philosophy, and performance objectives. Oversee the investigation and remediation of fraud incidents ensuring timely escalation to senior management and drive long-term resiliency strategies.
  • Establish and maintain a risk-based fraud operating model that balances fraud mitigation with customer/consumer experience, order approval rates, and revenue preservation.
  • Define fraud risk appetite, governance structure, and escalation protocols in partnership with leadership.
  • Own the external fraud ecosystem strategy, including selection and strategic oversight of payment processors, fraud tools, and partners.
  • Lead strategic partner discussions on fraud trends, authorization performance, and emerging risk mitigation approaches.
  • Serve as the enterprise subject matter expert for customer/consumer payment fraud and align stakeholders across business, technology, and risk functions.
  • Assess fraud risk for new business initiatives, payment methods, and system changes, and define required controls prior to implementation.
  • Define and oversee fraud performance measurement framework including KPIs, loss metrics, and value-based outcomes.
  • Analyze fraud trends, emerging threats, and macro patterns to drive strategic risk mitigation decisions.
  • Prepare executive-level insights and recommendations on fraud risk exposure, financial impact, and strategic priorities.
  • Ensure alignment of fraud strategy with regulatory expectations, payment network rules, and internal risk management standards.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, Criminal Justice, Forensics, Information Systems, Cyber Security, or a related field.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 8-10 years of progressive experience in fraud risk management, payments risk, eCommerce fraud, chargeback/dispute management, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience developing or managing fraud strategies, controls, and performance metrics in a customer/consumer payments environment.
