The Michigan State Police (MSP) Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED) is looking to fill entry level positions as Motor Carrier Officers (MCOs) across the state. No experience or degree is required. Pay and benefits start during training.

The Michigan State Police (MSP) Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED) is looking to fill entry level positions as Motor Carrier Officers (MCOs) across the state. No experience or degree is required. Pay and benefits start during training.

MCOs specialize in commercial vehicles and duties include traffic enforcement, crash investigation, driver and vehicle inspections, criminal interdiction, hazardous material transport, regulatory compliance, weigh station operation, infrastructure protection, as well as general emergency response.

Motor Carrier Officer's patrol is self-directed and encourages proactive and independent decision making. Individual work sites set schedules, but weekday work is prioritized, offering excellent work/life balance. Officers work flexible shifts, extremely limited weekends, and receive up to 14 paid holidays off a year.

• Starting pay of $26.82, annual pay increases reaching $40.22 at 6 years.
• The State of Michigan offers 401(k) and 457 retirement plans. The state contributes 4% of your pay to a 401(k) account and will also match up to 5%.
• Health, mental health, dental, and vision insurance, life-insurance benefit of two times employees’ annual salary (up to $200,000), and long-term-disability insurance.
• Vacation and Sick Leave:
  Receive between 15 and 35 personal days and 13 sick days per year that may be rolled over to the following year if not used, also receive an additional day each year for community service or school functions.
• Paid Parental Leave: 12 weeks of paid leave after a birth or adoption.

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• 21 years of age by academy graduation.
• No felony convictions.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Able to pass pre-employment fitness and written tests.
• Successful completion of an interview, background investigation, physical, psychological, and drug screening.
