JOB DESCRIPTION:This position is responsible for inspecting buildings to ensure compliance with codes and ordinances. Responsibilities may include performing inspections for construction and repair of buildings; reviewing construction plans; and responding to various inquiries from the public.
TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)- Inspects the construction, alteration, and repair of buildings for compliance with codes, ordinances, and approved building plans and specifications; enforces codes and ordinances.
- Reviews building plans for compliance with codes and ordinances; approves or rejects plans based on findings.
- Inspects residential and commercial properties for compliance with codes and ordinances; approves or denies re-occupancy of properties; prepares suggestions for resolving non-compliance issues.
- Responds to code interpretation, building permit, and related inquiries from residents, contractors, and others.
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance, including attendance at required meetings.

Qualifications EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:Associate’s degree and 1 year of related experience; or, all required certification(s) and 3 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:- Act 407 Certification or obtain within 6 months of employment
- Valid State of Michigan driver’s license
- Satisfactory completion of criminal background check (including sex offender registry if applicable) and drug screen that tests for illegal drugs as defined by the Federal Drug Free Workplace Act but not those legalized under Michigan law.
