About the Unit
6 South is a 32-bed surgical unit with a primary focus on post‑operative care of the abdominal surgery patient. You will work very closely with the surgeons and surgical residents. The unit fosters good teamwork, a friendly atmosphere, a good collaborative relationship with the multidisciplinary team members of case management, PT/OT, dieticians, and social work. The unit fosters open communication, professional autonomy, a multicultural atmosphere, certified preceptors, well‑structured atmosphere, and will enable you to have a large variety of patients to allow for great nursing experience and development of assessment skills.
The unit has 8 telemetry beds for patients requiring cardiac monitoring post‑surgery.

Scope of workUnder supervision of a nurse and following hospital policies and procedures, performs various nursing care tasks and treatments on assigned patients. Performs routine bedside nursing activities including bathing and personal grooming of patients; ambulating, moving and turning patients; assisting patients with bedpans or urinary devices; making patient beds and caring for personal property. Assists in performing additional nursing procedures such as catheterizations, suctioning, irrigating colostomies, applying restraints, giving enemas, douches and sitz baths or pericare.

- Currently enrolled and attending an accredited school of registered nursing (BSN or ADN)
- ADN graduates must sign a BSN completion agreement upon hire in a graduate nurse position
- RN from another state awaiting Michigan licensure or graduate nurse awaiting retake of NCLEX or awaiting results of the last exam
- Transcripts must be provided at the time of hire and may be requested for review periodically
- Requires evidence of successful completion of adult medical‑surgical rotations – theory and clinical
- Requires current BLS certification
