Position: Nurse Tech 6S

About the Unit

6 South is a 32-bed surgical unit with a primary focus on post‑operative care of the abdominal surgery patient. You will work very closely with the surgeons and surgical residents. The unit fosters good teamwork, a friendly atmosphere, a good collaborative relationship with the multidisciplinary team members of case management, PT/OT, dieticians, and social work. The unit fosters open communication, professional autonomy, a multicultural atmosphere, certified preceptors, well‑structured atmosphere, and will enable you to have a large variety of patients to allow for great nursing experience and development of assessment skills.

The unit has 8 telemetry beds for patients requiring cardiac monitoring post‑surgery.

Scope of work

Under supervision of a nurse and following hospital policies and procedures, performs various nursing care tasks and treatments on assigned patients. Performs routine bedside nursing activities including bathing and personal grooming of patients; ambulating, moving and turning patients; assisting patients with bedpans or urinary devices; making patient beds and caring for personal property. Assists in performing additional nursing procedures such as catheterizations, suctioning, irrigating colostomies, applying restraints, giving enemas, douches and sitz baths or pericare.

Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled and attending an accredited school of registered nursing (BSN or ADN)
  • ADN graduates must sign a BSN completion agreement upon hire in a graduate nurse position
  • RN from another state awaiting Michigan licensure or graduate nurse awaiting retake of NCLEX or awaiting results of the last exam
  • Transcripts must be provided at the time of hire and may be requested for review periodically
  • Requires evidence of successful completion of adult medical‑surgical rotations – theory and clinical
  • Requires current BLS certification
