Medical Assistant (MA) - Geriatrics

Description:

Medical Assistant – Geriatric Primary Care Clinic Medical Assistants work in a collaborative environment to deliver excellent patient care under the direction of licensed clinical professionals in a clinic or practice environment. MAs are expected to facilitate all aspects of the patient visit experience. Be the person that makes the difference every day in our patients’ lives.

• Room set up and patient preparation
• Taking vitals (Manual & Electronic)
• Perform EKG
• Drawing blood and giving injections and immunizations
• Performing office tests (Point of Care Testing)
• Pharmacology Administrative duties
• May perform or assisting with in-office procedures / treatments

• Education
  - Minimum:
  High School Diploma or GED.
• Successful completion of accredited/approved: MA program and MA externship, MA internship, EMT, or Paramedic program.
• Credentials/Licensure (Preferred):
  Certification as a Medical Assistant through one of the following certifying agencies:
  American Association of Medical Assistants (CMA) American Medical Technologists (RMA) National Center for Competency Testing (NCMA) National Health career Association (CCMA) National Association of Health Professionals (NRCMA) American Medical Certification Association (CMAC)
• Related Experience
  - Minimum:
  In absence of completed MA Program/Externship/Internship, must have 2+ years clinical experience providing clinical support in community-based clinic and be subject to standardized testing and evaluation of clinical skills.
• Preferred:
  New graduate or 1 or more years of previous clinical experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Experience caring for older adults or in a geriatric setting
• Strong interpersonal skills and compassion for aging populations
• Ability to work with patients who may have cognitive, sensory, or mobility impairments
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
