Purpose of Position:
Support students who have behavior and/or mental health needs.

Job Description:

The School Social Worker – Mental Health Provider role is responsible for supporting students with mental health and behavioral needs by implementing treatment intervention, implementing Crisis Prevention strategies and behavior protocols, assisting with conflict resolution, collecting data and collaborating with all stakeholders.

Reports to:

Superintendent & Oversight with Manistee ISD 31N Program Manager

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree of Social Work
  • Other related credentials may be considered based on experience
  • Michigan License to provide behavioral health counseling.
  • May be a LMSW, LPC, or LLMSW
  • Best Practice & Experience preferred, but not limited to:
  • Experience working with students who have behavioral or mental health needs.
  • Experience with conflict resolution.
  • Experience working in a school setting.
  • Trained in Crisis Prevention strategies.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide mental health services to students in the school environment.
  • Implement Crisis Prevention strategies
  • Assist with conflict resolution among students.
  • Work closely with the school team to meet a behavioral health plan.
  • Work collaboratively with all stakeholders including but not limited to: students, staff,
    parents/guardians, Behavioral Health Team members, ISD staff, community agencies.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and proficiency in behavioral health assessment and provide
    individualized, evidence-based treatment to improve student well-being.
  • Demonstrates competency through the annual discussion process feedback, clinical staff
    dialogue, performance appraisals and staff education.
  • Completes all documentation within the timeline’s requirements of the treatment process in
    accordance with requirements of the 31N mental health funding.
  • Demonstrates knowledge skills, and ability to effectively respond to behavioral health
    crises and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Co-creates individualized care plans with measurable outcomes and provides care
    coordination as needed with community resources and other providers.
  • Maintain effective communication with students, families, and team members, including
    participation in case reviews to ensure safety and coordinated care.
