Job Description

We are the movers of the world and the makers of the future. We get up every day, roll up our sleeves and build a better world -- together. At Ford, we’re all a part of something bigger than ourselves. Are you ready to change the way the world moves?

In this position

Are you passionate about the intersection of automotive technology and process efficiency? As an OTA Planning & Strategy Engineer, you will support Ford’s mission to redefine vehicle ownership by managing the technical infrastructure that makes software updates possible. While our Leads set the strategy, you will be the primary architect of the workflows that bring that strategy to life. You will leverage advanced Jira automation and AI prompting techniques to ensure our OTA pipeline is fast, data-driven, and error-free.

Responsibilities
  • Workflow Automation: Design and maintain complex Jira automation rules to streamline the intake of OTA software update requests, ensuring they move seamlessly from initial request through to the Kick-Off and Operational Product Approval milestones.
  • System Maintenance: Act as the primary administrator for the OTA team’s Jira and Confluence environments, managing permission schemes, custom fields, and project architectures to support a growing portfolio of vehicle lines.
  • AI-Enhanced Operations: Utilize advanced AI prompting to analyze vast amounts of vehicle software data, generating summaries and insights that help the Lead prioritize content for the OTA calendar.
  • Documentation & Communication: Use AI tools to draft standardized release notes, technical documentation, and internal status reports, ensuring high-quality communication with minimal manual effort.
  • Process Optimization: Identify bottlenecks in the current OTA planning process and implement automated solutions to reduce cycle time between update identification and deployment.
  • Data Integrity: Maintain the accuracy of the OTA request backlog, ensuring that all data supporting vehicle software updates is organized, tagged correctly, and ready for executive review.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in Jira automation and maintenance. You should have a deep understanding of Jira Service Management, advanced workflow transitions, and the Atlassian Marketplace ecosystem.
  • 3+ years of experience in program coordination, technical project management, or software operations (this is positioned as the "lower level" to the Lead's 7+ years).
  • Strong ability to organize and interpret complex data sets to support vehicle‑specific software requirements.
Even better, you may have
  • Familiarity with vehicle software architectures or previous experience with Over-the-Air (OTA) update cycles.
  • 2+ years of professional experience in AI prompting and prompt engineering. You must be able to demonstrate how you use Large Language Models (LLMs) to automate text‑based tasks or analyze data.
  • Experience with Script Runner for Jira or basic Python to further enhance automation capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical automation logic into clear processes for the broader product team.

You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!

Benefits
  • Immediate medical, dental, vision and prescription drug coverage
  • Flexible family care days, paid parental leave, new parent ramp‑up programs, subsidized back‑up child care and more
  • Family building benefits including adoption and surrogacy expense reimbursement, fertility treatments, and more
  • Vehicle discount program for employees and family members and management leases
  • Tuition assistance
  • Established and active employee resource groups
  • Paid time off for individual and team community service
  • A generous schedule of paid holidays, including the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day
  • Paid time off and the option to purchase additional vacation time.

This position is a range of salary grades 6 – 8 and ranges from $83,280 – $190,500.
