Senior Business Analyst – EV Charging Ecosystem
Job Description
Location: Dearborn, MI
Experience: 6–10 years (min. 3+ years in EV charging / e-mobility domain)
About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Business Analyst with deep, hands-on understanding of the EV charging ecosystem to bridge business requirements with technical implementation across our charging network platform. This role requires strong command of industry protocols (OCPP, OCPI) and the practical realities of integrating with Charge Point Operators (CPOs), eMSPs, and roaming networks. You will work closely with engineering, product, and external partners to define, document, and validate integration requirements that power seamless EV charging experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather, analyze, and document business and functional requirements for EV charging platform features, partner integrations, and roaming network connectivity.
- Act as the domain expert on OCPP (1.6/2.0.1) for charge point-to-CMS communication and OCPI (2.1.1/2.2/2.2.1) for CPO–eMSP roaming interoperability.
- Translate business needs into detailed functional specifications, API integration requirements, and process flows for engineering teams.
- Lead requirement discovery sessions with CPOs, eMSPs, hardware vendors, and payment providers to define integration scope and data exchange models.
- Analyze and document integration nuances such as tariff structures, session/CDR (Charge Detail Record) reconciliation, token authorization flows, real-time status/availability sync, remote start/stop commands, and firmware update handling.
- Identify edge cases in charger connectivity, offline/online transitions, smart charging profiles, load balancing, and error/fault code handling.
- Collaborate with QA to define test scenarios and validate protocol compliance and end-to-end integration behavior.
- Support partner onboarding by creating integration playbooks, data mapping documents, and troubleshooting guides.
- Work with product managers to prioritize backlog items based on business impact, regulatory requirements, and partner SLAs.
- Monitor evolving industry standards (OCPP 2.0.1, OCPI 2.2.1, ISO 15118, OpenADR) and assess their implications on the platform roadmap.
- Serve as a liaison between business stakeholders, external partners, and technical teams throughout the SDLC.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong working knowledge of OCPP (charge point management, remote transactions, diagnostics, firmware management) and OCPI (locations, sessions, CDRs, tariffs, tokens, commands modules).
- Proven experience working with or integrating Charge Point Operators (CPOs), e-Mobility Service Providers (eMSPs), or roaming hubs (e.g., Hubject, Gireve).
- Understanding of EV charging hardware behavior (AC/DC chargers, connector types, smart charging, load management).
- Experience writing detailed BRDs, FRDs, API specifications, and data flow/sequence diagrams.
- Familiarity with REST/JSON APIs, webhooks, and integration testing tools (Postman or similar).
- Ability to read/interpret API documentation and work directly with engineers on integration edge cases.
- Strong stakeholder management skills — comfortable working with external partners, hardware vendors, and internal cross-functional teams.
- Excellent documentation, communication, and presentation skills.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
- Experience with ISO 15118 (Plug & Charge), OpenADR, or smart grid integration standards.
- Exposure to payment gateway integrations (RFID, app-based, contactless) within charging sessions.
- Background in energy, automotive, mobility, or IoT-based platforms.
- Certification or training in Business Analysis (CBAP, PMI-PBA) is a plus.
- Experience with Agile/Scrum delivery frameworks and tools like JIRA/Confluence.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business, or related field (Master's preferred but not mandatory).
