Church Planting Resident or Pastor:
Grace Presbyterian Church of Dearborn
Grace Presbyterian Church of Dearborn is seeking a Church Planting Resident or pastor for a 2–3 year residency designed to train, equip, and test a man for future pastoral ministry and potential church planting in Metro Detroit. The resident will labor alongside the Church Planting Pastor in the ordinary work of pastoral ministry while receiving hands‑on training in preaching, shepherding, outreach, leadership development, and cross‑cultural ministry in Dearborn.
The church planting resident will report to the Church Planting Pastor. A major responsibility of the resident is to aid the Church Planting Pastor and congregation in establishing Grace Presbyterian as a thriving church in Dearborn that is actively engaging the city’s various populations with the gospel.
If the candidate is still completing seminary, his seminary work would be incorporated into his work time.
If the candidate is already ordained or ordainable in the PCA, the resident could serve as assistant pastor at Grace Presbyterian Church.
Responsibilities- Raising the financial support necessary to fund the position (see details below).
- Sunday morning preaching. Regularity will be based on the experience of the candidate.
- Regularly assist in liturgy and, if ordained, administer the sacraments.
- Faithful prayer for the church.
- Regular teaching (Bible study, new members classes, leadership classes, Sunday School, etc.)
- Attend and observe commission/session meetings.
- Attendance and involvement at presbytery.
- Create and execute a plan to care for the youth and college students in the church and create programs as necessary.
- In cooperation with core men in the church, create and execute a plan for providing community and spiritual growth among the men in the congregation.
- Organize various outreach opportunities for the church.
- Table at public events.
- Explore Christianity.
- Provide pastoral care and counseling as assigned.
- Meet regularly with the pastor for training, planning, and evaluation.
- Other duties as assigned (as a church plant employee this could be a significant part of the job description).
Authentic relationship with Jesus Christ.
Completed background check.
Ordainable or working toward being ordainable in the Presbyterian Church in America.
- A master’s degree at a reputable seminary or working toward said master’s.
High character that will reflect the values of the church to those inside and outside the congregation.
Ability to organize, coordinate, and motivate volunteers. Strong team player with the rest of the staff and congregation. Enthusiastic, responsible, self‑motivated and creative.
Experience living in urban areas or in cross cultural contexts is extremely helpful.
Arabic language skills are a plus.
