Job Overview
The Michigan Department of Corrections employs practical nurses to provide healthcare services to inmates. Employees work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and perform a full range of practical nurse assignments.
Responsibilities- Perform a full range of practical nurse assignments, including basic nursing techniques and procedures.
- Work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse at all times.
- Certificate from a practical nursing education program accepted for licensure by the Michigan Board of Nursing.
- Michigan licensure as a Practical Nurse.
- No specific type or amount of prior experience is required.
The Department of Corrections may screen out applicants who have been convicted of a felony in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017. Applicants with a misdemeanor or felony conviction are ineligible for employment until satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed.
All employees must meet the ethical standards and conduct expectations required for state‑classified service and must disclose any potential conflict of interest.
