Become a Graduate Nurse in the Southern Region
Under the guidance and direct oversight of a licensed Registered Nurse, this position performs a range of patient care assignments within the secure perimeter of MDOC facilities. Upon obtaining licensure within six (6) months of hire and successful performance, the position will be reclassified to the Registered Nurse P11.

Possession of a diploma, associate's, bachelor's, or master's degree in nursing, accepted for licensure by the Michigan Board of Nursing.
ExperienceNo specific type or amount of experience is required. Applicants will remain on file for six months; after that period, reapplication is required.
Legal and Ethical StandardsThe Department of Corrections may screen out job applicants who have been convicted of a felony in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017. Applicants who have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony are ineligible for employment with the Department of Corrections until satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation.
Employment in the state classified service demands a high degree of loyalty and imposes high ethical standards. All employees must meet these ethical standards and are required to report any possible conflict of interest. Employees may complete the required form (CS-1783) during selection or bring it to the interview.
Training RequirementsNew hires, as well as previous MDOC employees returning after more than two years away, will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) consisting of either 40 or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will also complete additional online training to successfully complete NCNET.
