Overview

Responsibilities- Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with complex neurological and neurosurgical conditions following department-approved practice guidelines under the general guidance of the Neurosurgeon and the APP Manager.
- Staff 13-hour shifts (6a-7pm or 6pm-7am) within a 40 hour workweek, with weekend commitments averaging approximately 1 weekend every 3 weeks. Future scheduling needs may adjust based on patient care needs, program growth, and operational priorities.
- Provide full coverage for a busy, high-acuity Neurosurgery service, including 24/7 coverage and on-call responsibilities.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to formulate treatment plans, interpret studies/tests, and ensure appropriate and quality patient care.
- Write prescriptions for medications and perform related orders in accordance with written practice protocols.
- Determine eligibility for clinical trials and initiate appropriate actions to facilitate therapeutic plans aligned with continuing healthcare needs.
- Communicate with referring physicians, undergo daily multidisciplinary rounds, and participate in team-based care to ensure quality outcomes.
- Provide symptom management for side effects related to oncologic treatment and assist in the management of family dynamics during acute and chronic phases of patient care.
- Provide on-call coverage, triage patients, and determine the urgency of physician evaluation.
- Education / Training:
Master’s Degree in Nursing OR a Master’s in Physician Assistant studies. - Work Experience:
1 to 2 years’ experience as an Advanced Practice Provider in a Neurology clinical setting is preferred. - Certification, Licensure, Registration:
State of Michigan Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant license required; AHA/ARC BLS certification required.
