Electrician​/Instrument Technician

This Factory Electrician/Instrument Technician requires a combination of electrical, instrumentation, programming, and mechanical skills. The primary duty of this position is to provide electrical, instrumentation, and mechanical support to the Factory and/or Packaging & Warehousing to sustain sugar production operations and maintenance. Responsibilities include installation and maintenance of a wide variety of sugar production equipment and other electrical or mechanical devices, and instrumentation/programming support for sugar production, maintenance hardware and software, and VFD installation/programming.

Shift work, overtime, and apprenticeship program participation is required.

• Keep electrical systems running to prevent or minimize downtime in process.
• Upgrade and add new electrical systems, including running conduit, wire, and termination ends.
• Maintain existing electrical systems.
• Cooperate with other skilled technicians on maintenance, repair, and construction tasks.
• Perform all electrical, instrumentation/programming on production equipment and buildings, ensuring proper operating condition.
• Assist in mechanical or fabrication projects when needed.
• Handle all PLC installations, upgrades, program changes, and backup programs for processors and HMIs.
• Plan and execute projects with minimal guidance.
• Order parts.
• Inspect all newly installed and pre-existing equipment to ensure safe and proper work completion.
• Lead small work crews during repair season.
• Lift or carry items up to 40–50 lbs; for items over 50 lbs, use assistance or mechanical lifting device.

• State of Michigan Electrical License as a Journeyman or Master Electrician.
• Minimum 5 years of industrial electrical experience preferred.
• Willingness to complete all aspects or equivalent of the MSC E/I program.
• Industrial experience with motor control, relay logic, PLC logic, and computer‑based motor and process control systems.
• Experience with Allen Bradley Rockwell software:
  Logix 500, RSLogix 5000, Studio 5000, and Factory Talk View.
• Ether Net/IP linking device and Connected Components Workbench experience preferred; if lacking, required after placement.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work.
• Preference for experience with acetylene cutting torch and welding.
• Ability to work safely at all heights and demonstrate proper use of required PPE.
