PROFESSIONAL STAFF POSITIONS
Carpenter
Qualifications- The employee must be able to work independently and also in crews.
- Should have considerable knowledge of methods and materials, techniques and practices of the carpenter trade.
- Should have a working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- The ability to make time and material estimates.
- The ability to read and work from blueprints, sketches and oral instructions.
- The ability to handle all the tools and materials of the carpenter trade.
- An overall complete knowledge of the carpentry trade.
- High school graduation or its equivalent.
- Four years or more apprenticeship plus three or four years of experience as a journeyman carpenter. Must have an approved certified card.
- Must provide basic tools.
- Preference for this position will be given to the carpenter apprentice whom the Apprentice Committee has verified as successfully completing the apprenticeship program.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
Supervisor, General Trades, Trades Leader
Job GoalMaintain and renovate the district's buildings in an efficient and professional manner in accordance with applicable building safety codes.
Performance Responsibilities- Does rough and finish carpenter work on buildings.
- Repairs doors and replaces wooden parts or fixtures on doors, cabinets, etc.
- Performs hand and bench work using band saw, planer, planing machines, electric drills, sanding machines, rip saws, joiners, cut-off saws, chisels, drill press, grinders, turning lathes, tentor machines, etc.
- Install and repair all flooring types (carpet, VCT, ceramic tile, etc.).
- Perform concrete, block, brick and mortar installation and repairs.
- Re-anchor door closers, auditorium seats, toilet partitions, gym equipment and steel plates on exit doors.
- Supervise carpenter apprentice, carpenter helpers and unskilled workers.
- Builds and repairs all types of school furniture and fixtures such as bookcases, shelves, desks, chairs, doors, cabinets, tables and moldings; repairs venetian blinds, window cords and drapes.
- Improves desks and tables by replacing wooden desk and table tops with Formica tops, matches wood when making repairs and sands floors.
- Ability to work independently and be able to achieve and maintain job productivity.
- Make estimates of time and materials as assigned.
- Maintain cleanliness of the carpenter shop in the maintenance building. Works safely at all times.
