Alliant Energy seeks an Accountant II to join our Madison, WI team. The role focuses on financial accuracy and insight across strategic energy projects, influencing capital investment structures and supporting regulatory filings and audits.
Responsibilities- Prepare and analyze financial and statistical reports, including financial statements and footnotes for regulatory agencies and management.
- Develop accounting schedules, analyze account balances and maintain accounting records in accordance with company procedures.
- Review variances in financial results versus budget and prior periods, providing explanations and recommendations.
- Maintain the general ledger and produce financial statements and related reports for the parent company, utility companies, SERVCO, and non‑regulated businesses.
- Prepare source input, parameter tables, and other details for the financial accounting system and reporting.
- Interpret policy, exercise independent judgment, and recommend accounting adjustments or procedural changes to ensure compliance with company procedures and regulations.
- Respond to regulatory bodies for accounting information and support audits.
- Research and implement regulatory accounting requirements and stay updated on developments in accounting, industry, and regulations.
- Engage in additional duties that support Alliant Energy’s Values and Purpose.
- Bachelor’s degree with a focus in business, accounting, or a related field.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years’ accounting experience.
- Knowledge of accounting principles, theories, practices, and procedures of the utility industry.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in computer software programs (e.g., email, word processing, spreadsheet, project management).
- Experience with common accounting software applications preferred.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Pay range: $67,000 – $80,000. Eligible for the annual incentive program. The final salary offered will be based on factors including responsibilities, experience, and internal pay equity.
